NAILERS WEEK IN REVIEW

February 5-February 12

Saturday, February 10 Wheeling 2 @ Johnstown 5

Three early goals in the first period did the Nailers in as they fell 5-2 to the Johnstown Chiefs Saturday night at the Cambria County War Memorial. The Nailers peppered Morgan Cey with 41 shots in the losing effort. The Chiefs opened the scoring by putting just their second shot past Andy Franck at the 4:47 mark of the first frame. Eric Przepiorka tipped a P.J. Atherton shot through traffic and into the net. Jean Desrochers' first of two goals increased the Johnstown lead to two. On the power play, Maxime Boisclair took the original shot and Desrochers was able to redirect the rebound underneath Franck at 7:23 of the first. Just over a minute later, Wheeling turned the puck over in their own end allowing Adam Henrich to blast one glove-side, upstairs on Franck. Johnstown took their 3-0 lead into the first intermission despite being outshot 11-6 in the opening period. Johnstown's lead grew in the opening minute of the second period as Desrochers picked up a loose puck off the stick of Dmitri Tarabrin and slid it through Franck's legs. Wheeling scored its first goal in the closing seconds of the middle period. Ryan Moren's shot created a rebound for Jon Foster to bang in the net for his eighth goal of the season with just 67 seconds remaining in the second. The Nailers drew within two at the 5:11 mark of the third with Sean Collins's 14th of the year. Wheeling negated a power play by being called for too many men on the ice at 4:14 of the third. While playing four aside, Adam Henrich was whistled for tripping to put Wheeling on the power play. Collins' shot hit the side of the net, bounced off the end-boards and back through the crease. His rebound shot found twine and put the Nailers within two. Franck came up big in the third to keep Wheeling's hopes alive by stopping nine shots, including a penalty shot on Tarabrin at 16:56. An empty net goal by John Adams secured the win for the Chiefs.
