Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV – The Wheeling Nailers today announce their schedule for the 2003-2004 season, the 12th season of professional hockey in Wheeling.

For the fifth time in franchise history, and the first time since the 1998-99 season, the Nailers will open at home. The first game for Wheeling will be Saturday, October 18 against the Roanoke Express. The 72 game regular season schedule will end on April 3, 2004 when the Nailers play at Atlantic City.

This season the East Coast Hockey League and the West Coast Hockey League have merged with seven teams from the WCHL joining the ECHL. The Nailers will play one game against the new additions of the ECHL. The Long Beach Ice Dogs will travel to Wheeling for the Nailers second game of the season on Sunday, October 19.

With the addition of the WCHL teams, the league will have 32 teams competing for the upcoming season. There will be two conferences, Eastern and Western, with two divisions in each conference. The Eastern Conference will have a nine team Northern Division, where the Nailers will be, and a ten team Southern Division. The Western Conference will have a seven team Western Division, made up of the WCHL teams, and a six team Eastern Division.

The playoff format for next Spring will be determined and voted upon by the Board of Governors at a later date. The name of the new league and the championship trophy will also be determined at a later date.

The Nailers will release a list of promotional nights for the 2003-2004 season and ticket prices as soon as they are determined. For any information regarding the upcoming season and the schedule, call the Nailers office at 234-4625 or toll free at 1-877-NAIL-TIX.
