Toledo Storm Releases 2003-04 Schedule

Toledo Walleye News Release
(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Storm of the East Coast Hockey League today released the team's 72 game regular season schedule, which features twelve games against the organization's perennial rival, the Peoria Rivermen, the first game in franchise history against the Columbia Inferno, and two home games against the Idaho Steelheads, one of nine new teams added this season to the ECHL.
The Storm's thirteenth season in franchise history kicks off at the Toledo Sports Arena on Friday, October 17th against the Johnstown Chiefs, who return to the league as the only ECHL team to remain in the same city for the entire 16 year history of the league, which will expand to 32 teams, including new additions in Gwinnett County (Georgia), Beaumont (Texas), and seven cities in the western United States.
A new alignment will split the league into an Eastern Conference, comprised of nineteen teams, and a Western Conference with thirteen teams. Each conference will also be separated into two divisions. The Storm will be a member of the Northern Division of the Eastern Conference, along with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies, the Cincinnati Cyclones, the Dayton Bombers, the Johnstown Chiefs, the Rivermen, the Reading Royals, Trenton Titans and Wheeling Nailers.
After the home-opener, the Storm overnights to Peoria to take on the Rivermen for the first of what will be twelve match-ups during the regular season-the most against any single opponent for the Storm. In fact, in a case of âdéjà vu all over again,' the Storm face the Rivermen five times during the month of March, including a stretch of four games in two weekends-a stretch eerily similar to the series between those two clubs last year when they were battling neck-and-neck for the top slot in the league.
Toledo plays a total of sixty-six games against divisional opponents, including ten against the Cincinnati Cyclones-the team that defeated the Storm in the second round of the playoffs this past season. The Storm will also see the two teams who remain in contention for the 2003 Kelly Cup Championship, the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies, who Toledo plays four times in 2003-04, and the Columbia Inferno, who the Storm will see for the first time in franchise history on January 9, 2004. That game actually kicks off a four game southern swing during which the Storm will also face the Florence Pride, the Roanoke Express, and the 2002 Kelly Cup Champion Greenville Grrrowl. The only team that is new to the league that the Storm will face during next year's regular season is the Idaho Steelheads who will travel to the Sports Arena on February 20 and 21st.
The busiest months of the year for the Storm are January and March when the team plays fifteen games, while Toledo plays nine games during the month of December. Next year's regular season goes into April, as the Storm concludes the regular season on April 3, when they take on the Reading Royals in Reading, Pennsylvania. Toledo's schedule is heavily weighted towards weekend dates, as sixty-three of the Storm's games next season will be played on either a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
Season tickets are currently available for the 2003-04 season from the Storm office at 419-691-0200.
