Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA – The East Coast Hockey League announced its 2003-04 schedule Friday, and the Louisiana IceGators open their ninth season at home on Friday, Oct. 17 versus the Mississippi Sea Wolves, one of 13 meetings between the Southwest Division rivals this season. The IceGators and Sea Wolves tied for the division title this past season. This will mark the first time in team history that Louisiana has opened the season at home.

The IceGators will play in the Eastern Division in the newly formed Western Conference. Louisiana will play a total of 15 teams in the 2003-04 season, including 12 games each against division brethren Arkansas, Pensacola and expansion Texas, located in Beaumont. The Wildcatters make their first trip into the Cajundome on Saturday, Nov. 15. The Columbus Cottonmouths will also play in the Eastern Division of the Western Conference, and the IceGators play them five times.

A big highlight on the schedule is a New Year's Eve date against Southern Conference champion Columbia, which is currently in the Kelly Cup Finals against Atlantic City. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Inferno and IceGators, who will meet again in the Palmetto State in March. Fans will get to see a lot of the IceGators early on, with 17 of the team's 36 home games before New Year's Day.

Cajundome fans will get to see three teams that they have never seen before, in addition to the Texas Wildcatters, as Fresno, San Diego and Gwinnett all come into town. Fresno plays at the Cajundome on Sunday, Nov. 9, and San Diego comes into town on Monday, Feb. 16. Gwinnett, formerly the Mobile Mysticks, play back-to-back games on March 27 and 28 at the Cajundome.

The IceGators play 28 of their 36 home games on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, including 12 on Sunday.

Louisiana, which plays two games each at Arkansas and then against the Everblades in Estero, Fla., after its home opener, has another lengthy road trip in March. The IceGators start a nine-game, 14-day road trip in Columbia on March 5. The trek also sees two games in Greenville, one in Gwinnett, one in Charlotte, one in South Carolina, one in Florence (formerly called Pee Dee), and single games each in Mississippi and Texas.
