Chiefs Release 2003-2004 Schedule

Johnstown, PA- The East Coast Hockey League announced the 2003-2004 season schedule today. The ECHL will have a new look this season, as seven former members of the West Coast Hockey League have joined the league. The league also welcomes the expansion Texas Wildcatters (Beaumont, T.X.) and the former Mobile Mystick franchise, Gwinnett Gladiators (suburban Atlanta, G.A.).

This season the ECHL will have 32 teams in 18 states. The eastern most team in the league is the Atlantic City (N.J.) Boardwalk Bullies, while the Anchorage (A.K.) Aces are the western most.

The Johnstown Chiefs will open the 2003-2004 season on Friday, October 17th, when they travel to Toledo to take on the Storm. The Chiefs open up their home schedule the following night, October 18th, when they host the Long Beach (C.A.) Ice Dogs.

Once again the Chiefs have a fan friendly schedule as they play 33 games on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Game times will be changed slightly this season as all home games except for Sunday's and New Year's Eve will begin at 7:00 p.m. Sunday games will remain a 2:30 p.m. face-off and the annual New Year's Eve game will start at 6:00 p.m.

The ECHL also changed their divisional alignment for the 2003-2004 season. There are now two conferences, with two divisions in each conference. The Chiefs will play in the Eastern conference, Northern division, along with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies, Cincinnati Cyclones, Dayton Bombers, Peoria Rivermen, Reading Royals, Toledo Storm, Trenton Titans, and Wheeling Nailers. The playoff format will be determined at the ECHL governors meetings next month in Charlotte, N.C.
