Ice Dogs Announce 2003-04 Schedule

LONG BEACH, Calif. – May 9, 2003 – The Long Beach Ice Dogs will open their inaugural 2003-04 East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) season on Fri., Oct. 17, when the club travels to Virginia to face the Roanoke Express. The Ice Dogs begin the season with a six-game East Coast road swing followed by seven home games–the longest home stretch of the year. The team plays its home opener on Sat., Nov. 1, against the Bakersfield Condors.

The Ice Dogs have added four more weekend home games this season, and will face 10 new teams overall including ECHL Kelly Cup finalist Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies, the Florida Everblades, Charlotte Checkers, Trenton Titans, South Carolina Stingrays, and expansion teams the Las Vegas Wranglers and Texas Wildcatters.

The Ice Dogs' ECHL regular season schedule contains 72 games in total, 36 at home and 36 on the road. With the change in leagues, the club will play in the Western Division of the Western Conference in the four-division, dual-conference format.

Eleven of the 32 ECHL teams will make at least one visit to the Long Beach Arena. The Ice Dogs will play 10 times against divisional opponents and twice against Texas in the Eastern Division, totaling 62 games against Western Conference opponents. In the Eastern Conference, the Ice Dogs will play a total of 10 games, six times against Northern Division opponents and four against Southern Division opponents. Charlotte, Florida and South Carolina are the only teams in the Southern Division to visit the Ice Dogs, while Trenton is the only Northern Division team.

The Ice Dogs have three six-game road trips in their schedule (Oct. 17-25, Feb. 13-22, and Feb. 29-Mar. 13), marking the longest road segments of the year. Friday games will start at 7:30 p.m. with Sunday games starting at 5 p.m. All other games will start at 7 p.m.
