Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - Peter Delmas made 36 saves to help lead the Wheeling Nailers to a 3-1 decision over the Toledo Walleye at WesBanco Arena Wednesday evening. The win bumps the Nailers to sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Wheeling opened up the scoring at 2:33 of the first as Doug Rogers snapped a wrist shot past the blocker of Toledo goaltender Thomas McCollum to take the 1-0 lead. Wheeling killed off a Toledo power play late in the period to take a 1-0 lead into the first period.
The Nailers took a 2-0 lead as Tyler Murovich scored his fifth goal of the season and first as a Nailer. Mikael Bedard fired the puck on a goal, and Murovich tapped in the rebound at 4:49 of the period. Wheeling took the two goal lead into the second break.
Wheeling continued to create offense. Newcomer Brandon DeFazio circled the net, and stuffed the puck on a wrap-around off McCollum's skate and into the net to extend the lead to 3-0. The marker was the first professional goal for DeFazio who has now registered a point in all three appearances this season with Wheeling.
Goaltender Peter Delmas was stellar in goal pitching nearly 56 minutes of shutout hockey. However, Sebastien Piche rifled a shot past Delmas from the point at 16:16 to put the Walleye on the board 3-1. The Nailers put in a stingy defensive effort for the game's final four minutes to preserve the 3-1 home victory.
The Nailers play host to the South Carolina Stingrays on Saturday inside WesBanco Arena. The first 2,000 fans will receive a free Nailers St. Patty's Day Hat. Game time is 7:35 p.m. Tickets may be purchased by calling (304) 234-GOAL, or (304) 234-4625.
