Aces Claim Pivotal Game in Las Vegas 3-1

March 16, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

Gerald Coleman made 22 saves, keeping the opposition to one goal for the third straight game, and the Alaska Aces never trailed for the fourth straight game, holding off the Las Vegas Wranglers for a 3-1 win from the Orleans Arena on Tuesday night in Las Vegas. The Aces extended their winning streak to a league-best six games, and moved six points ahead of Las Vegas for the top seed in the Western Conference. Alaska also moved into a tie with the Reading Royals for the best record in the ECHL with 81 points in 62 games. Alaska's record improved to 39-20-4 on the year, and they have earned points in 13 of their last 14 games. The Aces now continue their five-game road trip, with a Wednesday night stop in Bakersfield. Alaska had to weather a storm for much of the first period, but managed to strike late for the only goal of the frame. Garry Nunn used his speed to turn around a defenseman from the right circle and find Curtis Fraser in front of the net for Fraser's second goal since joining the Aces at 18:53. Alaska was outshot 10-7 in the period, but took the lead into the first intermission break.

The Wranglers evened the score at 8:12 of the second period when Jerry Pollastrone tapped a rebound out of mid-air through the legs of Gerald Coleman and into the net to tie the game at 1-1. Alaska quickly reclaimed the lead on a nifty goal from Scott Howes. With his back to the net, and a few feet off the crease, Howes could not find an available pass, and flipped a backhand past Michael Ouzas at 11:53 to reclaim the Aces lead at 2-1 with his 20th of the year. The Aces outshot the Wranglers 10-7 in the period.

Alaska dominated play in the third and outshot Las Vegas 20-6. Ouzas kept his team in the game, but Wes Goldie scored into an empty net at 19:50 to secure the Aces win, and move into first place in the ECHL goal scoring race.

Gerald Coleman (24-13-1) made 22 saves on 23 shots for the win. Michael Ouzas (17-12-2) took the loss, making 37 saves on 37 shots. The Aces power play went 0-2, while the Wranglers went 0-2. The Aces outshot the Wranglers 38-23 in the game.

The Aces now continue their five-game road trip, with a trip to Bakersfield on Wednesday night. For the most up-to-date team and promotional information, please visit the Aces on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/#!/alaskaaceshockey. Fans can also call the Aces office at 907.258.ACES.
