Jackals Extend Point Streak To Five Games

JACKALS WEEKLY RELEASE

The Elmira Jackals (29-24-6-3) enter the third-to-last week of the 2010-2011 ECHL regular season on a five-game point-earning streak, with three wins and two shootout losses in that stretch. Last week, Elmira went 2-0-0-2, winning the first two games of the week on Tuesday in South Carolina, 3-2, and Friday at First Arena against Gwinnett, 2-1, before succumbing in shootouts to the Gladiators on Saturday, 2-1, and Trenton on Sunday, 3-2.

The Jackals are tied for sixth in the Eastern Conference standings with the Cincinnati Cyclones and the Wheeling Nailers at 67 points and are just one point back with a game in hand on the Florida Everblades for fifth place. The top eight in the conference will qualify for the 2011 Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Elmira has taken points in nine of 10 games under head coach Robbie Nichols (7-1-0-2). This week, the Jackals head to Trenton for a game with the Devils on Wednesday before taking on the Royals in Reading on Friday and Saturday.

The Jackals are at home on Sunday at First Arena against the Royals at 4:05 p.m. Fans are invited to take advantage of the 4 for $44 family special. DONATI ADDS TO LEAD

Justin Donati extended his league-leading scoring total to 86 points on Sunday by collecting a point for the third-straight game. Last season's ECHL Rookie of the Year has points in nine of the last 10 games (8g-13a) and has 63 assists, topping the ECHL in that category as well.

TIFU LOOKS TO START NEW POINT STREAK

Yannick Tifu's season high eight-game point streak came to an end on Sunday (8g-8a). The veteran from Brossard, Quebec is tied for third in the ECHL with 43 assists and has 22 goals for 65 points this season.

FRANK NETS FIRST OF SEASON

Chris Frank scored his first goal of the season on Sunday, threading in a puck over the goal line from the right post after a stickhandling effort through the right circle to put Elmira up 2-0. Frank's goal was the second of his professional career, as the Lynnwood, Wash. native also scored with Las Vegas on Mar. 5, 2010 in Ontario.
