The Gwinnett Gladiators claimed rookie goaltender Garrett Zemlak off waivers on Wednesday. They also released goaltender Bobby Jarosz.

Zemlak, 21, has played for four other teams so far in 2010-11 making stops in Binghampton (AHL), Elmira, Stockton, and Kalamazoo (ECHL). The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native was released by Elmira on Sunday after he appeared in seven games with the Jackals.

Zemlak made his pro debut last season in a three start stint with the Charlotte Checkers. He opened this season in training camp with the Los Angeles Kings before playing one game in Kalamazoo, 14 in Stockton, one in Binghampton, and seven in Elmira.

Before he went pro Zemlak spent four of his five years in juniors in the Western Hockey League, where he went 54-49-6 with five shutouts, a 3.31 goals-against average, and .896 save percentage in 127 games. He split time between the Saskatoon Blades and the Prince Albert Raiders, where he was a teammate of current Gladiator forward Dustin Cameron.

Last season, Zemlak was named the Raiders "Most Outstanding Player" as he registered career-highs in wins (26), save percentage (.909), shutouts (4) and games played (57).

Jarosz, 23, was acquired from the Reading on March 2nd as a part of the trade that sent defenseman Sam Roberts to the Royals. He did not make an appearance for Gwinnett, and played in just one game for the Royals after he was acquired in a trade with South Carolina on February 19th.

The Crystal Lake, IL native also spent time with AHL Hershey and the Arizona Sundogs of the CHL this season, and made one start with the Wheeling Nailers in 2009-2010. Jarosz played college hockey at Michigan State, where he won a National Championship in 2007.

The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
