Wheeling Nailers News Release

renton Titans (9-11-1-2 21Pts) vs. Wheeling Nailers (12-7-0-0 24 Pts)

On Saturday night, the Wheeling Nailers will lock horns with a familiar foe, as they take on the Trenton Titans for the third time in eight days, as well as the seventh time this season, when the two teams collide at WesBanco Arena.

The Nailers have alternated wins and losses in each of their last eight games, dating back to November 18th. Wheeling and Elmira both came up short in their games on Friday night, meaning the top of the Atlantic Division Standings remains the same, with the Jackals leading the Nailers by two points. Wheeling enters this contest with a 12-7-0-0 record, which is good for 24 points, and an eighth place ranking in the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, the Titans were off on Friday, following an overtime victory over Reading on Thursday. That lifted Trenton into third place in the Atlantic Division for the moment, although Reading has pulled even following Friday's win against the Nailers. The Titans' record currently stands at 9-11-1-2, which is good for 21 points.

SInce the Nailers and Titans last met on Wednesday night, both teams have been in action once, and oddly enough, it was against the same opponent. Trenton visited Reading on Thursday, and escaped victorious with 19 seconds left in overtime, when Ryan Hayes broke a 2-2 tie. Matt Germain and Andy Bohmbach scored in regulation for the Titans, who received 19 saves from Brad Phillips in his first appearance since November 20th. On Friday night, Wheeling got their turn with the Royals, but this time, the story was Reading netminder Mark Owuya, who made 55 saves in a 4-2 win for the visitors. Dale Mitchell factored in all four goals for Reading, who broke a 2-2 tie with Dennis McCauley's power play goal with 3:01 left in regulation.

This is the seventh head-to-head meeting of the season between Wheeling and Trenton, with the Nailers currently leading the season series 4-2. Four of the six games have been played at home for the Nailers, with both teams winning once and losing once in both Wheeling and Johnstown. Meanwhile, the Nailers have won both games played in Trenton. Chris Barton leads the way with eight points in the six contests for the Nailers, while Ryan Hayes leads the way with six points for the Titans. In goal, Patrick Killeen and Peter Delmas both have two victories for Wheeling, while Dave Caruso and Brad Phillips have one win each for Trenton.
