Delmas Shines in Goaltending Duel Against Trenton

December 10, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV- For the second night in a row, goaltending was the story, as the Wheeling Nailers played host to the Trenton Titans on Saturday at WesBanco Arena. Peter Delmas made 33 saves to get the upper hand in the goaltending battle, and was helped by goals from Zack Torquato and Patrick Johnson, as the Nailers edged the Titans 2-1 in front of 3,795 fans.

Picking up where they left off on Friday, the Nailers continued to pepper the opposition goal, firing 21 shots on goal in the opening period of play. One of those shots found the back of the twine, as Mickael Bedard slid a pass through the crease to Zack Torquato, who knocked in a shot from the left side.

Wheeling doubled the lead with 4:04 left in the second period, while playing on the man advantage. Olivier Dame-Malka slid the pass across the blueline to Zach Hansen, who let a shot go from the right point. Patrick Johnson got a piece of the puck in the slot, deflecting it into the goal for his sixth marker of the season. A little less than three minutes later, the Titans got on the board. Adam Presizniuk steered a shot on goal from the right circle that was stopped by Peter Delmas. However, the rebound deflected out to Corey Syvret, who reacted quickly to put it back, cutting the Nailers' lead in half.

Neither team was able to light the lamp in the third period, as both goaltenders were brilliant. Peter Delmas led the Nailers to the 2-1 victory, as he stopped 33 of the 34 shots he faced. Dave Caruso was saddled with the loss for the Titans, despite making 40 saves on 42 shots.

The Nailers will conclude their stretch of four games in five nights on Sunday at 4:05, when they visit the Reading Royals. Their next home game takes place in Johnstown on December 16th, also against Reading, and their next game in Wheeling is on December 18th against the Chicago Express.
