Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators lost 3-1 to the South Carolina Stingrays Saturday night in front of the largest crowd of the season of 9,059 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. With the win the Rays move into a tie with the Glads atop the South Division.
The Gladiators (10-8-5-2) came out fighting in the first period against the Stingrays (13-9-0-1). Gwinnett's Pat Galivan passed the puck to Nikita Kashirsky who took the shot from the top of the near circle. Chris Clackson then deflected the puck behind Stingrays goalie Philipp Grubauer and tapped it in at 7:22 into the first period. Kashirsky's assist helped notch his 75th point of his career and his 14th for the Glads.
South Carolina answered with three straight goals. South Carolina forwards Pierre-Luc O'Brien and Greg Stewart had two of the goals 29 seconds apart. O'Brien's unassisted goal was his tenth for the season. David de Kastrozza capped the scoring for the Stingrays at 16:44. The Stingrays ended the first period ahead 3-1.
The score stayed the same through the next two periods, as Gruebauer turned away a late Gwinnett surge for his 10th win of the season.
The Gladiators held the Stingrays to four shots in the third period. Gwinnett goalie Marc Cheverie had 28 saves.
The Gladiators finish the two-game set Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
