December 10, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release
Estero, Fla. - The Elmira Jackals earned their seventh win in the last eight games on Saturday night at Germain Arena, opening a three-goal lead in the third period and holding off the Florida Everblades for a 4-2 victory. The Jackals leave Florida having won two of three games against the Everblades on the week.
Justin Shugg backhanded in a puck on a rebound from a David Fischer shot to give the Everblades a 1-0 lead at 3:15 of the opening frame. A delay of 15 minutes followed for an on-ice cleanup of thousands of stuffed animals, with Florida hosting its Teddy Bear Toss Night.
Rob Bellamy snapped in a feed from Kevin Harvey in the right circle moments after play resumed, beating Florida netminder Pat Nagle stick side to tie the game, 1-1, at 4:27.
In the second period, Louie Caporusso lifted a puck with little room from the left goal line past Nagle's stick, putting Elmira in front for the first time at 10:18, 2-1.
With the Everblades on a power play late in the second, Matt Campanale batted down a David Fischer pass to start a rush for the Jackals. Jean Bourbeau centered a puck for Campanale on the doorstep, who tapped it into a gaping net to extend the lead to 3-1 at 19:30. Campanale's tally would prove to be the game winner.
Mario Larocque added to the Jackals lead with a power-play strike in the third period, driving a puck off of Fischer's skate past Nagle at 3:40 to extend the advantage to 4-1. The five-on-three goal was Elmira's first of the season.
Rylan Galiardi gave the Everblades a late power-play goal at 18:53 of the third period, cutting the Jackals' lead to 4-2. Elmira would hold off Florida the rest of the way.
Brian Stewart stopped 32 of 34 shots to improve to 10-4-0-0 on the season. Nagle dropped to 7-7-0-0 with 25 saves on 29 shots.
The Jackals continue their seven-game road trip on Friday in Hoffman Estates, Ill. against the Chicago Express. Elmira returns home to host Wheeling on Dec. 26 on 4-for-$44 night. To reserve your seats call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office, or log onto JackalsHockey.com.
