Mud Hens Stumble for Second Straight Night

July 25, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

Saturday night against the Scranton/Wilkes Barre RailRiders, the Mud Hens' pitching was knocked around for ten runs. The Toledo offense couldn't get much going against the RailRiders' pitching, and the Hens suffered a 10-2 loss. Tim Melville started on the mound for the Mud Hens, but allowed seven earned runs to give Scranton/Wilkes Barre their second straight victory over Toledo.

Neither team was able to score in the first inning, but the RailRiders were able to jump out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Melville walked the first three hitters of the inning, but then got Juan Graterol to fly out to Daniel Fields in left field. However, Ben Gamel followed with a bases clearing triple to center field. A sacrifice fly brought Gamel in to cap off the inning.

The Mud Hens responded in the third inning, though. With one out, Josh Wilson walked, and was then moved over to third on a single from Fields. Dixon Machado got Toledo on the board with an infield single to shortstop. With two outs, Tyler Collins hit a single up the middle that scored Fields to pull the Hens within two. That was all the offense Toledo could muster though, as they would only tally two more hits all game for six total.

Scranton/Wilkes Barre answered back with a three run fourth inning to put them up 7-2. Melville made it through the fifth inning, but the bullpen fell victim to the RailRiders' offense too. The RailRiders put up their second three spot of the evening in the sixth inning to solidify their second straight victory over the Mud Hens.

The Mud Hens play one more game on Sunday against Scranton/Wilkes Barre at 1:05 p.m. before returning to the friendly confines of Fifth Third Field on Monday. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
