Allentown, PA - The Syracuse Chiefs dropped the second game of the three-game series to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 4-3, Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park. The loss was the Chiefs' seventh straight to the IronPigs this season, sixth of which have been by just one run. Jayson Werth went 3 for 4 with two RBIs in his fifth rehab game with the Chiefs.

Lehigh Valley (46-55) put the first two runners of the game on base. Chase d'Arnaud reached on an error by shortstop Trea Turner, followed by a Tyler Henson double to put runners on second and third. After Chiefs starter Paolo Espino recorded a strikeout, Aaron Altherr hit a ground ball to first base. Kevin Keyes bobbled the ball, allowing Altherr to reach and d'Arnaud to score on the error to give the IronPigs a 1-0 lead. A batter later, Erik Kratz brought in Henson on a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 2-0.

Syracuse (39-63) tied the game in the fifth. Tony Gwynn, Jr. reached with a fielder's choice with one out. Darin Mastroianni followed with a single to put two runners on. After a pop out, Werth worked the count to 3-0. He swung at the 3-0 pitch and drilled a double to right-center field, scoring both runners to tie the game.

The momentum was short lived as the IronPigs answered in the bottom of the frame. With two outs, Altherr homered to left field to give Lehigh Valley a 3-2 lead. The IronPigs then followed with the other two kinds of extra-base hits, a triple by Kratz and a double by Jordan Danks to extend the lead to 4-2.

The Chiefs battled back for a run in the seventh. Darin Mastroianni tripled to lead off the inning against David Buchanan. Turner followed with a sacrifice fly to bring the Chiefs within one. Syracuse picked up a base runner in the eight and ninth, but did not score.

Syracuse looks to salvage the final game of the series Sunday at 1:35 p.m. Bruce Billings is slated to start for the Chiefs opposite Jason Berken for the IronPigs.
