IL1 Toledo Mud Hens

Big Fifth Inning for RailRiders Downs Mud Hens

July 25, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

After travelling to Moosic, PA to take on the Scranton/Wilkes Barre RailRiders, the Mud Hens lost the first game of the three game series 9-3. Going up against the New York Yankees' top pitching prospect in Luis Severino, the Toledo offense tagged him for three runs on six hits, but it wasn't enough to claim a victory. Mike Belfiore started for the Hens, and despite having good July numbers, was hit hard by the RailRiders.

The Mud Hens struck first right away in the first inning of the game. Dixon Machado walked, and then Steven Moya followed with a single to move him to second. With two outs, Dean Green slapped a single to left field to give Toledo a 1-0 lead. The RailRiders tied the game in the third inning, but the Hens answered right back in the fifth inning with two runs. With two runners on, Machado grounded out to short, but Manny Pina scored on the play to put Toledo up 2-1. Steven Moya then hit his second RBI of the night, a single to right field to score Corey Jones.

Scranton/Wilkes Barre unloaded for six runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning to take a 7-3 lead over the Mud Hens. In the sixth inning, they scored two more runs off of Alberto Cabrera. Tom Gorzelanny and Drew VerHagen were dominant out of the bullpen after, but the damage was already done.

The Mud Hens take on the RailRiders at PNC Field on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
