Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

A two-run fifth helped lift the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (46-55) to a 4-3 win over the Syracuse Chiefs (39-63) on Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park.

In the afore-mentioned two-run fifth, Aaron Altherr (2-4, HR, 2 RBI, R) gave the Pigs a 3-2 lead with a solo shot, his sixth round-tripper of the season with Lehigh Valley. Erik Kratz (1-3, 3B, RBI, R) followed with a triple and later scored on Jordan Danks' RBI double to open up a 4-2 advantage.

It was just the fourth triple of Kratz's career and his first since May 9, 2010 with Indianapolis.

Chiefs starter Paolo Espino (3-4) gave up the four runs (two earned) on seven hits to go along with a walk and four strikeouts in five innings of work.

Pigs starter David Buchanan (3-0) allowed the three runs on nine hits to go along with three walks and two strikeouts in 7.0 IP. RHP Dustin McGowan (1.0 IP, H, 2 K) retired the side in the ninth to notch his sixth save of the season.

The Pigs took an early 2-0 lead with a pair of unearned runs in the first. With runners at second and third and one out in the inning, Altherr reached on an error charged to Chiefs 1B Kevin Keyes which allowed Chase d'Arnaud (R, 2 SB) who had reached on an error by SS Trea Turner to start the frame. Kratz drove home the other run in the inning with a sac fly.

In the top of the fifth, Jayson Werth's two-run double tied things at two apiece for Syracuse.

The Chiefs cut the lead to 4-3 with a run in the seventh as Darin Mastroianni led off with a triple before coming home on Trea Turner's sac fly.

LHP Cesar Jimenez (1.0 IP, BB, K) tossed a scoreless inning in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.

Tonight's game marks the 2,500th game that Brundage has managed in his minor league career.

The series wraps up on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. from Coca-Cola Park as RHP Jason Berken (5-7, 3.39) will be on the bump for the IronPigs against Syracuse RHP Bruce Billings (6-4, 4.45).
