Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - River Cats infielders Scott Moore and Andy Parrino hit back-to-back home runs to lead off the fifth inning, powering Sacramento past the Oklahoma City RedHawks by a score of 4-2 on Fireworks Friday at Raley Field.
The first three innings went by without either team recording a hit. That changed in the fourth when RedHawks second baseman Andy Simunic doubled to right-center field. After getting out of the inning unscathed, the River Cats put two runs on the board in the bottom half when Michael Choice and Stephen Vogt delivered RBI-singles after Jemile Weeks and Hiro Nakajima led off the inning with a double and a walk, respectively.
After Oklahoma City cut the deficit in half with back-to-back doubles in the top of the fifth, Moore and Parrino went deep in consecutive at-bats to start the bottom of the fifth, giving Sacramento all the offense it would need in its 4-2 win.
Andrew Werner had arguably his best start of the season, holding the RedHawks to just one run on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts for his fourth win. Pedro Figueroa allowed one earned run on three hits in 0.2 innings pitched for his third hold, and Dan Otero shut the door with 1.1 scoreless innings for his team-leading 10th save of the season.
Moore finished 1-for-2 with his fourth home run, while Parrino went 1-for-4 with his first Triple-A home run since July 1, 2012 against Salt Lake when he was with the Tucson Padres. Weeks went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk, while Vogt finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The back-to-back home runs were the fourth of the year for Sacramento, and were the first involving either Moore or Parrino. The River Cats last went deep in consecutive at-bats on May 7 when Weeks and Josh Horton accomplished the feat on the road against the Memphis Redbirds.
Oklahoma City right-handed pitcher Ross Seaton was charged with his fourth loss of the season, giving up all four River Cats runs on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts in four innings. Simunic and Che-Hsuan Lin were the only RedHawks with multiple hits, collecting two base knocks apiece.
Game three of the series is set for 7:05 p.m. on Sutter Health Fireworks Saturday at Raley Field when River Cats righty Bruce Billings (3-2, 6.10 ERA) takes on RedHawks right-hander Jarred Cosart (4-0, 2.08 ERA).
