Memphis Redbirds News Release

TACOMA, Wash. - Outfielder Adron Chamber hit a two-out bunt single to score Justin Christian in the top of the ninth inning to propel the Memphis Redbirds to a 7-4 win over the Tacoma Rainiers on Friday night Cheney Stadium.

Later in the ninth, Jermaine Curtis tacked on two insurance runs for a 7-3 advantage with a two-run single, extending his team-leading RBI count 24.

Combined with the Omaha loss, the second straight last-at-bat victory for the Redbirds (22-17) extended their lead two games in the PCL American Northern Division.

Shortstop Ryan Jackson had another excellent night for the Redbirds, going 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs to raise his average to .385. Chambers, Christian, and Vance Albitz each added two hits in the victory.

The Redbirds jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with a couple home runs, beginning with J.R. Towles' solo shot over the left field wall in the second inning. The tater was the backstop's fourth of the season.

In the next inning with two outs and Chambers on base, Jackson extended his hitting streak to 10-game with a two-run blast to left, his second of the season.

Tacoma scored in three separate innings to knot the contest at 3-3, culminating with a Carlo Peguero sixth-inning home run over the center field wall. A late Abraham Almonte RBI single in the bottom of the ninth against Eric Fornataro concluded Tacoma's scoring.

Tyler Lyons gave up three runs on six hits with seven strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings for his fifth straight no-decision. Jorge Rondon worked around two walks in a shutout inning. Barret Browning (1-2) tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings for the victory.

The two teams continue their series at 7:35 pm CT on Saturday night at Cheney Stadium. Left-hander Nick Additon (2-1, 4.00) will toe the rubber against right-hander Jeremy Bonderman (2-3, 3.70).
