Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Albuquerque (20-22) scored one in the second inning but were held scoreless the remainder of the game falling 5-1 in their third consecutive loss to the Reno Aces (17-26).

The Topes relievers put forth a strong effort holding Reno to no runs upon starting pitcher Matt Palmer's exit in the fourth. Red Patterson helped right the ship for what had been a shaky Albuquerque bullpen. The right-handed hurler fired three scoreless innings of relief surrendered just two hits. He also fanned three Aces hitters. RHP Peter Moylan added a scoreless frame to the bullpen line allowing two hits and a walk, but he also struck out two. Southpaw Kelvin De La Cruz turned in a scoreless inning ninth inning completely the stellar night for Albuquerque bullpens pitchers. He struck out one in his outing.

Reno jumped out to another quick lead with the aid of a fielding error in the second inning. The first batter Juan Rivera reached first safely on a fielding error at second base by Alfredo Amezaga. Catcher Ed Easley followed with his fifth double of the season scoring Rivera giving the Aces a 1-0 lead.

A pair of one out hits by SS Justin Sellers (1-for-3) and C Jesus Flores (1-for-4) had the Topes threatening the next half inning. Matt Palmer then executed a sacrifice bunt on the left side and reached first safely on a fielding error by third baseman Matt Davidson. With the bases full of Topes, RF Matt Angle grounded out but Sellers scored on the play tying the game at one.

The Aces put two on the board in the third and plated an additional two in the fourth inning forcing Albuquerque to play catch up again. Rivera followed base knocks by SS Chris Owings and 3B Matt Davidson with a single of his own driving Owings in. Davidson would come around to score on a single by 2B Taylor Harbin.

In the fourth, CF Tony Campana and Owings both singled on bunts for one of Reno's hottest hitters, Kila Ka'aihue. The first baseman doubled for the eighth time this season sending Campana and Owings across home plate extending the Aces lead to 5-1.

Palmer (1-2, 6.17) suffered the loss tossing four innings for the Topes. He allowed five runs, four earned, on a season-high eight hits. The right-handed hurler punched out a season-high six hitters against two walks.
