Montreal Impact Forward Jack McInerney Voted MLS Player of the Week
June 30, 2014 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release
NEW YORK (Monday, June 30, 2014) - Montreal Impact forward Jack McInerney was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 16 of the 2014 MLS season.
McInerney's two goals propelled the Impact to a 3-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on Sunday.
In the 41st minute, McInerney gave the Impact a 1-0 lead. Eric Miller sent a perfectly weighted pass to the head of McInerney who made an acrobatic leap and flicked the ball over his back and into the right side of the net.
McInerney doubled the score in the 75th minute, with a wonder strike from inside the box. After some creative movement, Justin Mapp sent a low, hard cross into the box that McInerney redirected off the post and into the goal, leaving goalkeeper Tally Hall scrambling.
Montreal Impact hit the road for their next match when they take on Chivas USA on July 5 (10:30 p.m. ET).
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/ .
