Cleveland Monsters News Release
Two goals each from Joey Hishon and Mike Sgarbossa propelled the Lake Erie Monsters (6-8-1-2) to a 4-2 victory over the Hamilton Bulldgos (8-9-2-0) Friday night before a crowd of 8,222 at Quicken Loans Arena. Sami Aittokallio stopped 28 shots for the win in net. The Monsters and Hamilton meet again Saturday in Hamilton at 7:00 p.m.
Joey Hishon finished a picture-perfect passing play by one-timing a Troy Bourke pass top-shelf past Hamilton goalie Mike Condon at 1:52 of the first period. The goal was the third of the season for Hishon, and was also assisted by Markus Lauridsen. Hishon's tally was the only goal of the first period.
Mike Sgarbossa extended the Monsters lead to 2-0 when he cut through the Hamilton defense with speed, deked to his backhand, and flipped the puck past Condon at 4:40 of the second period, with assists to Andrew Agozzino and Colin Smith. The goal was the second of the season for Sgarbossa, who added to the Monsters lead with his third of the season less than three minutes later. Sgarbossa attempted a pass to Colin Smith on a rush to the net, and the puck deflected past Condon before it could get to Smith's stick. Smith and Lauridsen assisted on the goal.
Hamilton's T.J. Hensick and Magnus Nygren scored in the back half of the second period to cut the Monsters lead to 3-2, but in the third period, the Monsters needed just 1:29 into the frame to regain a two-goal lead. Joey Hishon added the insurance marker for the Monsters from the top of the left circle with assists to Paul Carey and Bourke.
Sami Aittokallio stopped 28 of 30 shots and is 3-1-0 on the season for the Monsters. Condon stopped 35 of 39 shots for Hamilton; he is 5-5-0.
The Monsters and Hamilton play Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in Hamilton. The game airs live on AM 1420 "ËThe Answer'. The Monsters finish the weekend in Toronto Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
