Albany Devils Victorious against Phantoms in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - The Albany Devils jumped out to an early lead and then held on for a 4-2 win against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms Friday at Atlantic City's historic Boardwalk Hall. Reid Boucher, Ben Thomson, Graham Black and Paul Thompson each scored and Scott Wedgewood made 27 stops.

The Devils, who extended their point streak to three games, jumped out to a 3-0 advantage with the help of two power-play goals in the first period. Boucher cashed in at the tail end of a 5-on-3 power play from Joe Whitney at 4:11.

Darcy Zajac setup Thomson for a wrister in the high slot at 12:53. Black followed with a similar attempt at 15:23. Stefan Matteau and Tim Sestito both assisted on the power play tally.

In the second, the Phantoms mounted a comeback. Taylor Leier capitalized on a man advantage at 3:35. Petr Straka followed to make the score 3-2 18:13.

Thompson sealed the win scoring on an odd-man rush with his linemates -- Scott Timmins and Whitney -- at 16:54 of the third period.

Wedgewood's night included six stops in the first, nine in the second and 12 in the third. He awed the Jersey Shore crowd when he made a down-and-out glove save, denying Darroll Powe midway through the third period. He is now 3-3-1 for the season.

Anthony Stolarz started the game for the Phantoms was replaced at the beginning of the second period by Martin Ouellette. Stolarz was given the loss; he had 11 saves. Ouellette, who joined the club from the ECHL Thursday, also stopped 11.

Game Notes

Reid Boucher and Ben Thomson both registered their third goals of the season. Graham Black netted his fourth and Paul Thompson picked up his team-leading 11th ... With an two assists, Joe Whitney extended his point streak to three games (2g-5a). He leads the team with 18 points (7g-11a) ... Scott Wedgewood earned his first victory since Oct. 25 against Hartford ... Stefan Matteau appeared in his 100th career professional game ... Albany went 2-4 on the power play and 2-3 on the penalty kill ... The two teams will meet again at Boardwalk Hall on Dec. 14. The Devils improved to 28-23-6-4 all-time against the Phantoms.
