Norfolk Admirals News Release
HARTFORD, Conn. - Yann Danis picked up the shutout as two power play goals helped lead the Norfolk Admirals over the Hartford Wolf Pack, 2-0, Friday night at the XL Center.
Norfolk was able to kill off two early penalties in the first frame. Hartford's Ryan Bourque had a good scoring chance, but Danis, making his sixth straight start for the Admirals, was able to stand tall between the pipes. Both penalty kills resulted in a man-advantage of their own for the Admirals. Louis Leblanc continued his hot streak as he bounced a shot past Hartford goalie Mackenzie Skapski for his third goal in two games, all of which occurring on the power play. Max Friberg recorded his first point of the season with the assist on Leblanc's power play tally at the 7:11 mark.
Despite numerous scoring chances for both sides, there would be no more goals in the first period. The Admirals headed into the locker room with a 1-0 lead on the Wolf Pack after 20 minutes.
Friberg's first period assist was an ice-breaker for the 22-year-old winger who was playing in just his second game of the year. Yet again on the man-advantage, Friberg knocked home a rebound to give the Admirals a 2-0 lead, 9:52 into the second period. William Karlsson earned his first point with the team this season as he was credited with the assist along with Leblanc.
Hartford outshot Norfolk once again in the second period, but could not beat Danis with any of their 22 attempts. Norfolk entered the final frame with the lead for the second straight contest.
Emerson Etem was awarded a penalty shot early in the third period, but could not capitalize on it as Skapski denied the winger with a quick poke check, keeping the score 2-0 Admirals. Skapski left the net with more than two minutes remaining as the Wolf Pack desperately looked to even up the game. Danis would remain unbeaten, stopping a total of 35 shots as the Admirals earned the 2-0 victory.
Danis saved all 35 shots he saw, while Skapski turned aside 25 of 27.
The Admirals went 2-for-6 on the power play, and the Wolf Pack went 0-for-4.
Three Stars:
1) NOR #40 Yann Danis (35 saves)
2) NOR #14 Max Friberg (1 G, 1 A)
3) NOR #20 Louis Leblanc (1 G, 1 A)
NOTES ... It was the third time this season that the Admirals scored two power plays goals in a game ... After playing in 17 straight contests without a penalty, Brandon Yip has registered minor penalties in back-to-back games ... Etem's penalty shot was Norfolk's first since John Mitchell attempted one back on March 26, 2013 ... The Admirals have now given up the same number of shots, 188, in each period this season.
