Colin Smith scored twice and Calvin Pickard won for the second straight night in net as the Lake Erie Monsters (12-9-0-1) prevailed over the Hamilton Bulldogs (10-10-0-3) by a 4-1 score Friday evening at Quicken Loans Arena before a crowd of 7,497 fans at Quicken Loans Arena. With the win, the Monsters have won back-to-back games. Joey Hishon and Matt Hunwick also scored for the Monsters in the victory. The Monsters play Hamilton again on the road Sunday afternoon at 3:00 PM.

Smith scooped up a loose puck in the slot and quickly fired a shot top-shelf past Hamilton goalie Dustin Tokarski to give the Monsters a 1-0 lead at 4:54 of the opening period. J.T. Wyman and Dan Maggio assisted on Smith's third goal of the season.

Less than two minutes later at 6:48, Mark Olver held a puck in the offensive zone and backhanded a puck to Bryan Lerg in front. With no defender between him and the goalie, Lerg quickly dished a pass to Joey Hishon, who flipped the puck past Tokarski for a power play goal to give the Monsters a 2-0 lead. The goal was Hishon's fourth of the season.

With 27 seconds remaining the second, Matt Hunwick rifled a shot from the center of the Hamilton blue line through traffic and into the net to stretch the Monsters lead to 3-0. Lerg and Hishon assisted on the goal, Hunwick's third of the season and second in as many games.

Smith added a power play goal 98 seconds into the third period, his fourth goal of the season, quickly taking a pass from Paul Carey in front of the net and directing the puck past Tokarski to give the Monsters a 4-0 lead. Garrett Meurs also assisted on the goal, as he took a hit to deliver the pass to Carey into the offensive zone.

Pickard is 7-6-1 after the win; he stopped 21 of 22 shots. Tokarski stopped 25 of 29 shots, and is now 9-5-1 for Hamilton.

The Monsters and Bulldogs meet again on Sunday at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, with the game beginning at 3:00 PM and airing live on AM 1420 WHK.
