Pirates Start Busy Stretch vs. Sharks in Worcester

December 6, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Portland Pirates News Release

Worcester, MA - The Pirates will start one of their busiest stretches of the year with a trip to Worcester to face the Sharks tonight. Puck drops at 7:30 pm as the Pirates play their first of 6 games in a 9 day period.

The Pirates last played on Saturday night, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Springfield Falcons and former Pirate Mike McKenna. McKenna made 26 saves to keep the Pirates off the board, while Mark Visentin made 27 saves in the loss. The Pirates' penalty kill remained a bright spot, killing all 6 penalties during the game to extend their penalty kill streak to 3 games and 13 straight kills.

The Sharks' last game was against the Pirates last Friday at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee that the Sharks won 3-1. Worcester got goals from Bracken Kearns and James Livingston in the second period before Brett Hextall put the Pirates on the board in the third, but it wasn't enough as Freddy Hamilton scored an empty net goal to the preserve the two goal advantage and give the Sharks the win. Mark Visentin made 31 saves in the defeat of the Pirates.

KeyBank Key to the Game

Fire At Will: The Pirates have scored 2 goals in their last three games, averaging just over 25 shots in those three games. In each of those games, Mark Visentin has been forced to make more saves than the Pirates have had shots on net. The Pirates offense needs to get pucks on net and tilt the ice towards the Worcester goal tonight in order to spark the scoring and end the 3 game losing streak.

Tonight's game can be heard on the Pirates flagship stations WPEI 95.5/95.9 FM as well as WEZR AM 1240 in the Lewiston/Auburn area and WTME AM 780/1450 in Oxford County. The game can also be heard online at portlandpirates.com by clicking "Listen Live" and can be seen live on AHL Live at ahllive.com. The pregame show starts at 7:10 with Jeff Mannix.
