Texas Stars News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - Jyrki Jokipakka and Mike Hedden each notched a goal and an assist to help Jack Campbell get the win in his return from injury as the Texas Stars beat the Iowa Wild 4-2 Friday night in front of 4,533 fans at Cedar Park Center.
The Wild got on the board early when Brett Bulmer carried the puck into the zone and blasted a slap shot from the right circle that managed to beat Jack Campbell, who was getting his first start since October 23rd. Texas struck back with just 14.3 seconds remaining in the period with a Mike Hedden power play goal. Hedden took a pass from Brett Ritchie and fired a shot that trickled past Iowa goalie Darcy Kuemper, tying the game. Jyrki Jokipakka was credited with the second assist on the power play goal.
The Stars gained the lead in the second when rookie Brendan Ranford, set up by Hedden, put a quick wrist shot from the top of the circle through Kemper's five-hole at 9:52. Bulmer responded for the Wild later in the period with his second goal of the game, scoring on a wrister from the left circle that snuck past a screened Campbell low glove-side to tie the game up at two. The Stars responded with another late period power play goal, this time a two-man advantage. Jokipakka ripped a blistering slap shot through traffic and past Kuemper, breaking the deadlock and putting Texas up 3-2 at 18:21.
Chris Mueller put the game away in the third with a shorthanded empty net goal as the Stars successfully killed two late Iowa power plays and clinched the 4-2 victory.
Jack Campbell stopped 24-of-26 shots faced and got the win for Texas, improving to a perfect 3-0-0 in three starts on the season. Iowa goaltender Darcy Kuemper finished with 34 saves on 37 shots and was named the game's third star, in spite of taking his eighth loss of the year. The Stars out-shot the Wild 38-26 in the game and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Iowa was 0-for-4 with the man-advantage.
The Stars will complete their quick two-game series with Iowa on Saturday, December 7th for a 7:00 p.m. face off at Cedar Park Center. Saturday's game is a Texas Lottery Lucky Row Night, a Coke Zero Family Four Pack Night and is the Stars' Lunch Bag Giveaway presented by H-E-B.
