
Texas Defeats Iowa 4-2

Cedar Park, TX - The Iowa Wild (8-12-0-0, 16 points) were defeated by the Texas Stars (13-8-2-2, 30 points) 4-2 in front of 4,533 fans at the Cedar Park Center on Friday night. Texas defenseman Jyrki Jokipakka scored a five-on-three power-play goal late in the second period, breaking a 2-2 tie and giving the Stars the lead for good. Despite 34 saves on 37 shots, Iowa goalie Darcy Kuemper (5-8-0) took the loss. Texas forward Mike Hedden had a goal and an assist, as his club improved to 2-1-0-0 over Iowa this season. Wild forward Brett Bulmer scored both goals for his club, as Iowa slipped to 5-2-0-0 on the road this season. Texas goalie Jack Campbell (2-0-0) made 24 saves for the win. Iowa remains in Texas for a rematch on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Wild jumped out to a 1-0 lead merely 2:40 into the first period. Left wing Brett Bulmer led a two-on-one rush through center and into the Texas zone. Bulmer blasted a slapshot over the shoulder of Texas goalie Jack Campbell. His seventh goal of the season was assisted by Chad Rau. Texas tied the game 1-1 late in the opening period off a power-play goal by Mike Hedden, who jammed in a rebound from the slot. Hedden's seventh goal of the year was set up by Scott Glennie and Brett Ritchie.
Texas pushed in front at 9:52 of the second period with an even strength tally by Brendan Ranford. His fifth goal of the year was assisted by Hedden. Iowa answered back with a goal by Brett Bulmer, who scored his second goal of the night from the high slot. His eighth of the year was assisted by forward Zack Phillips and defenseman Steven Kampfer. The Stars claimed a 3-2 lead with a 5-on-3 power-play goal by Jyrki Jokipakka, who fired a shot through traffic and past Kuemper for his second goal of the year. Glennie and Taylor Peters each had an assist on the goal at 18:21.
Texas forward Chris Mueller scored an empty-net shorthanded goal with 1:33 remaining for the 4-2 final score. His 10th goal of the season was assisted by Maxime Fortunus.
The Wild continues a six-game road trip on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at Texas. After two games at Abbotsford, the team returns home on Sunday, Dec. 15 to host Rockford at 4:05 p.m. For Sunday's game, the team will hold its first Teddy Bear Toss, where fans are encouraged to throw a stuffed animal on the ice for charity. Fans will be permitted to through Teddy Bears on the ice after the Wild score its first goal of the night.
