Teddy Bear Toss and First Responders Night on December 14th
December 6, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Portland Pirates News Release
Lewiston, ME - The Portland Pirates will host their annual Teddy Bear Toss on December 14th as they take on the Worcester Sharks at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. This year's Teddy Bear Toss is sponsored by Central Maine Medical Center.
The Pirates have hosted the Teddy Bear Toss since 2010, with this season's being the first Teddy Bear Toss hosted at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee since the Lewiston MAINEiacs hosted their final one in 2010. Fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal to the game. When the Pirates score their first goal of the night, fans can throw their teddy bears on the ice. The bears will be collected and donated to Lewiston/Auburn first responders to be used in times of crisis.
Last year's teddy bear toss took place against the Worcester Sharks and resulted in 630 bears being donated to the Bruce Roberts Toy Fund. Current Phoenix Coyotes defenseman David Rundblad had the teddy bear goal for the Pirates, scoring 10 minutes into the first period to send a cascade of bears over the boards.
"We're excited to bring a hockey tradition back to Lewiston/Auburn with the Teddy Bear Toss," said Alex Romanoff, Pirates Chief Operating Officer. "With the support of L/A fans, we're hoping to beat last year's mark of 630 donated teddy bears in support of Lewiston/Auburn's first responders."
December 14th will also be First Responders night, presented by Central Maine Medical Center. First Responders from Lewiston and Auburn will be honored throughout the game and a portion of 50/50 proceeds will go to The Maine EMS Memorial and Education Site.
Tickets are available for next Saturday's game by calling the Androscoggin Bank Colisee Box at 783-2009 ext. 525 or online at thecolisee.com.
