Monsters Drop Bulldogs 4-1

CLEVELAND, OHIO - The Hamilton Bulldogs (10-10-0-3) allowed three power play goals on Friday night en route to a 4-1 defeat to the Lake Erie Monsters (12-9-0-1) at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

Lake Erie forward Colin Smith opened the scoring at 4:54 of the first period, assisted by forward J.T. Wyman and defenceman Daniel Maggio.

With Bulldogs forward Nick Tarnasky in the penalty box for interference, Monsters forward Joey Hishon notched a power play goal at 6:48 of the first period to put Lake Erie ahead 2-0, with assists from forwards Bryan Lerg and Mark Olver.

At 19:33 of the second period, Lake Erie defenceman Matt Hunwick scored on the power play to make it 3-0 Monsters, assisted by Lerg and Hishon.

Just 1:38 into the third period, Smith scored his second goal of the game, this time on the power play, to extend Hamilton's deficit to four. Lake Erie forwards Paul Carey and Garrett Meurs collected assists on the play.

Bulldogs forward Maxime Macenauer spoiled the Monsters' shutout bid on the power play with 3:15 to play in the third period, assisted by forward Louis Leblanc and defenceman Greg Pateryn.

Dustin Tokarski made 25 saves on 29 shots in the Bulldogs net in the loss. Calvin Pickard made 21 saves on 22 shots for the Monsters in the win.

The Bulldogs went 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Monsters went 3-for-6.
