SAN JOSE, California- The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars, snuck past the San Jose Barracuda in a 2-1 come-from-behind victory on Tuesday at Tech CU Arena in the final game of the Stars' six-game road trip.
San Jose owned the majority of the scoring chances in the first frame, but Remi Poirier turned away all 14 shots he saw in a scoreless period.
The Barracuda opened the scoring five minutes into the second period. Lucas Carlsson entered the zone on the left wing and found Filip Bystedt in the slot, who snapped it home.
In the final four minutes of the second, San Jose earned a power play with an opportunity to double their lead. Sean Chisholm picked up a loose puck for a short-handed breakaway, but sent the shot wide of the net.
Texas found the equalizer 1:24 into the third period. Cross Hanas forced a turnover in the offensive zone, which went right to Matthew Seminoff, who wristed a shot off of Laurent Brossoit. Hanas stuffed the rebound home for his eighth point in his last eight games.
The Stars went in front 16 seconds later on Dylan Hryckowian's first professional goal. Ayrton Martino crossed into the offensive zone on the left wing, found Hryckowian in the slot, and the rookie fired home the go-ahead goal.
Nolan Allan found himself all alone in the slot with 6:30 remaining in regulation, but Poirier went to the top of the crease to make the stop and keep Texas in front.
San Jose pulled Brossoit with 1:55 remaining for an extra attacker, but Poirier continued to keep the Barracuda at bay until the final buzzer.
Poirier tied a career-high with 43 saves in the win, while Brossoit stopped 32 of 34 in the loss.
The Stars will head back home for a weekend set with the Chicago Wolves that begins Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park. Tickets are on sale now at www.texasstars.com/tickets.
