LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

vs. Adirondack (1/25): Right wing Brandon Kozun tallied twice as the Manchester Monarchs won their third consecutive game by defeating the Adirondack Phantoms, 5-1, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday night. Center Marc-Andre Cliche, right wing Jordan Nolan, right wing J.D. Watt and Kozun (two) tallied goals for the Monarchs. Right wing Mike Testwuide scored the lone goal for the Phantoms. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (12-8-1) earned his 12th victory of the season stopping 28-of-29 shots. Phantoms goaltender Michael Leighton (14-15-0) took his 15th loss of the season making 11 saves on 15 shots. Netminder Jason Bacashihua (7-5-1) made 12 saves on 13 shots in relief of Leighton. Manchester went 2-for-4 on the power play. Adirondack was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

vs. St. John's (1/27): The Manchester Monarchs comeback fell short as they were edged by the St. John's IceCaps, 3-2, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. The Monarchs scored goals from center Marc-Andre Cliche and left wing Dwight King. Right wing Kevin Clark, left wing Jason Gregoire and left wing Kenndal McArdle tallied goals for the IceCaps. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (12-12-1) took his 12th loss of the season stopping 8-of-11 shots. Netminder Jeff Zatkoff (12-8-1) stopped all 28 shots he faced in relief of Jones. IceCaps goaltender David Aebischer (13-5-1) earned his 13th win of the season making 35 saves on 37 shots. Manchester went 0-for-1 on the power play. St. John's did not have a power play in the game.

vs. Worcester (1/28): The Manchester Monarchs head into the 2012 AHL All-Star break with a 3-2 overtime victory against the Worcester Sharks at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Center Justin Azevedo, left wing Dwight King and defenseman Jake Muzzin registered goals for the Monarchs. Left wing John McCarthy and right wing James Livingston recorded goals for the Sharks. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (13-8-1) earned his 13th win of the season stopping 33-of-35 shots. Sharks netminder Tyson Sexsmith (9-8-5) took his eighth loss of the season making 20 saves on 23 shots. Manchester went 2-for-5 on the power play. Worcester was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (25-20-0-2) are second in the Atlantic Division with 52 points. The St. John's IceCaps (27-11-5-1) are in first place in the division with 60 points. The Worcester Sharks (20-13-4-5) rank third in the division with 49 points. The Portland Pirates (21-18-2-3) sit in fourth place in the division with 47 points. The Providence Bruins (20-20-2-3) are in fifth place in the division with 45 points.

At the Verizon Wireless Arena this season, Manchester owns a 14-9-0-1 record.

The Monarchs had a three-game winning streak broken in a 3-2 loss to the IceCaps on Friday, January 27. The Monarchs entered the 2012 AHL All-Star break winning four of their last five contests.

This season, the Monarchs are 17-5-0-2 in games that have been decided by one goal.

Manchester is 16-11-0-2 against Atlantic Division teams this season.

Manchester is 14-3-0-2 in games when they have led after the first period and 14-0-0-1 when leading after the second period.

When scoring first this season, the Monarchs are 18-6-0-2.

Manchester's 823 penalty minutes rank fifth in the league this season. The team is averaging 17.5 penalty minutes a game which is eighth in the league.

The Monarchs have been outshot in 32 of their 47 games and own a 17-14-0-1 record in those games.

Center Marc-Andre Cliche (14-16=30) leads the team with 14 goals and 30 points and is third on the team with 16 assists.

Cliche's four game-winning goals lead the team and are tied for seventh in the league.

Going a perfect 6-for-6 in the shootout, Cliche ranks first on the team and is tied for the best percentage in the AHL. Cliche's six shootout tallies are the most by any player in the AHL this season.

Cliche is ranked second on the team with a plus-8 rating.

On Sunday, January 22, Cliche tallied three assists for his second three-point game of the season. The other three-point game was a natural hat trick recorded on October 7, 2011 against the Springfield Falcons.

Cliche had a four-game point streak (3-4=7) ended on Saturday, January 28 in a 3-2 overtime victory against the Sharks.

Cliche ranks ninth on the Monarchs all-time games played list with 259 games and is ranked ninth on the Monarchs all-time goals scored list with 55 tallies.

Monarchs left wing Dwight King (9-18') ranks second on the team in both assists (18) and points (27).

Right wing Brandon Kozun (12-15') ranks third on the Monarchs with 27 points.

Kozun is tied for eighth in the AHL with five first goals of the game and is second on the team with 12 goals scored.

Kozun's five power play tallies lead the team.

Defenseman Patrick Mullen (6-19=25) is fourth on the Monarchs with 25 points.

Mullen leads Monarchs defensemen with six goals, 19 assists and 25 points this season. Mullen's 19 assists rank first on the team.

Right wing Linden Vey (11-11=22) is ranked fifth on the Monarchs with 22 points and ranks third in goals with 11 tallies.

Right wing Jordan Nolan (9-11=20) is ranked sixth on the Monarchs with 20 points.

Nolan's 119 penalty minutes lead the Monarchs and ranks eighth in the league.

Center Justin Azevedo (8-11=19) is in seventh place on the Monarchs in scoring.

Azevedo had a four-game point streak (2-2=4) snapped on Friday, January 27 against the IceCaps.

Azevedo ranks eighth on both the Monarchs all-time assist list (82) and the Monarchs all-time points list (134).

Defenseman Thomas Hickey (2-14=16) is tied with defenseman Jake Muzzin (4-12=16) for eighth on the Monarchs in scoring this season with 16 points each.

Hickey leads the Monarchs with a plus/minus rating of plus-14. Hickey was named to the Eastern Conference Team at the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The 2012 AHL All-Star Skills Competition was Sunday, January 29 which resulted in a 18-10 Western Conference victory. The 2012 AHL All-Star Classic game is Monday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m.

Muzzin is on a three-game point streak (2-1=3) and has tallied five points (1-4=5) in his last five games.

Center Robbie Czarnik (5-9=14) is tied with center Andrei Loktionov (3-11=14) for 10th on the Monarchs with 14 points each.

Czarnik has five points (1-4=5) in his last three games. Loktionov was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, November 14 and has recorded four points (0-4=4) and two penalty minutes in 29 games this season.

In 49 career games with the Kings, Loktionov has 11 points (4-7=11) and four penalty minutes.

Defenseman Andrew Campbell (2-11=13) ranks fifth on the Monarchs all-time games played list with 269. Campbell has appeared in all 47 games this season for the Monarchs.

Defenseman Nick Deslauriers (1-8=9) has tallied a goal and five assists (1-5=6) in 12 games during January which leads all Monarchs defenders for the month.

Right wing Justin Johnson (1-2=3) is tied with defenseman Slava Voynov (2-1=3) with three points each.

Johnson is second on the team and is tied for 12th place in the AHL with 111 penalty minutes.

Voynov was recalled to the Kings on November 15. In 31 games with Los Angeles this season, Voynov has 11 points (4-7=11) and six penalty minutes.

Goaltender Martin Jones owns a 12-12-1 record, a 2.86 goals-against-average and a .912 save percentage in 27 games for the Monarchs.

Monarchs netminder Jeff Zatkoff has registered a record of 13-8-1, a 2.18 goals-against-average and a .932 save percentage in 26 games.

Zatkoff's 2.18 goals-against-average is sixth best in the AHL and his .932 save percentage is tied for second place in the league.

Zatkoff's 3-1 shootout record ranks sixth in the AHL.

Zatkoff was named to the Eastern Conference Team at the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The 2012 AHL All-Star Skills competition was Sunday, January 29 which resulted in a 18-10 Western Conference victory. The 2012 AHL All-Star Classic game is Monday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m.

Pink In The Rink - The Monarchs Care Foundation and the Catholic Medical Center are once again teaming up to raise awareness and money in the fight against breast Cancer. Join the Monarchs when they host the Connecticut Whale at 7:00 p.m. on February 11 to support the cause. The night will feature pink ice and specialty pink jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game's conclusion.
