Falcons to Host Special Hockey Event

Springfield Falcons News Release
The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that they will be hosting a special event called "24 Hours of Hockey" presented by Big Y World Class Markets starting at 2 pm on Saturday, February 11 and concluding at 2 pm on Sunday, February 12. This marathon of hockey will be held on an outdoor rink constructed on the grounds of the Eastern States Exposition located in West Springfield, MA.
"Much like the annual Hockey Day in Canada, the event is designed to promote the game of ice hockey in Western Massachusetts," said Falcons Director of Strategic Sales Don Moorhouse. "This event will also showcase the history of hockey in our area. By holding the event behind the Coliseum, '24-Hours of Hockey' hopes to pay tribute to the cultural and historical significance of hockey in West Springfield and the region while also introducing the sport to new fans."
The storied Coliseum was home for decades of the legendary Eddie Shore's Springfield Indians and Kings. The Coliseum was also home to neighborhood "Rink Rats" hired by Shore, many of whom went on to hockey careers themselves. Mid-century high school hockey rivalries also rocked the rafters of the "Old Barn."
Registration is open to everyone and players may sign up as individuals or as part of a team. Each team will have 10 players and games will be played 3 on 3 for adults and 4 on 4 for youths. Game times are reserved on a first come, first served basis. Each team will play pure pond hockey for one hour. There are no boards, no goalies, and no lifting the puck.
All participants will receive two tickets to the February 12 Falcons home game against the Manchester Monarchs to sit in the newly named "Coliseum Corner," Section 14. They will also be recognized during the game.
Ticket packages for the 2012-13 season are on sale and can be purchased by calling the Falcons Office at 413-739-GOAL. The Falcons offer a variety of flexible ticket options including: full season plans, 22-game packages, 14-game plans and 7-game packages. Anyone making at least a $50 deposit by April 14 will receive a limited edition Season Ticket Holder Falcons Jersey. Each package includes flexible payment plans and exclusive invites to special events held throughout the season.
