Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill. - The Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League hosted their third annual Pink in the Rink night on Saturday, raising over $21,000 to help fight breast cancer.
A packed house of 6,287, the largest crowd of the season and fourth largest in the IceHogs AHL era, came out to the BMO Harris Bank Center to see the IceHogs defeat the Milwaukee Admirals 3-1 while skating on pink ice and wearing special pink jerseys.
The pink jerseys were auctioned and raffled off during the game and combined for a total of $21,548. The highest jersey auctioned off was Carter Hutton's sweater and it went for $1,930.
The proceeds from this year's Pink in the Rink Night will benefit breast cancer research and awareness, including the American Cancer Society and Mary Kay Foundation.
Last season, the IceHogs Charitable Foundation raised $111,250 for charity through various team functions. In the club's 12 year history, the IceHogs have raised over $770,000 through the team's Charitable Foundation.
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
