LAST WEEK ‚¬â„¢S HIGHLIGHTS

Vs. Providence (3/9): Following a franchise-record of 14 rounds in the shootout, left wing Lane MacDermid scored the final goal as the Manchester Monarchs dropped a 3-2 shootout decision to the Providence Bruins on Wednesday evening at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Center Corey Elkins and right wing Oscar Moller collected goals for the Monarchs in regulation. Right wing Bud Holloway, center Justin Azevedo, left wing Ray Kaunisto and right wing Justin Johnson scored in the shootout for Manchester. The Bruins picked up regulation goals from left wing Lane MacDermid and center Trent Whitfield. Right wing Jordan Caron, right wing David Laliberte, left wing Antoine Roussel, MacDermid and Caron all found the back of the net in the shootout for Providence. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (15-12-5) dropped his fifth shootout of the season, stopping 31-of-33 shots on goal in regulation and 9-of-14 in the shootout. Bruins netminder Anton Khudobin (22-12-1) stopped 34-of-36 shots on net in regulation and 10-of-14 snipers in the shootout for his 22 win of the season. Manchester went 0-for-6 on the power play. Worcester was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.

Vs. Worcester (3/11): Despite outshooting their opponent 35-19, the Manchester Monarchs dropped a 3-1 decision to the Worcester Sharks on Friday evening at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Right wing Oscar Moller tallied the lone goal for the Monarchs. The Sharks collected goals from left wing Brandon Mashinter, right wing Tommy Wingels and right wing Dan DaSilva. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (22-10-1) dropped his 10th decision of the season, stopping 17-of-19 shots on goal. Sharks netminder Carter Hutton (6-3-2) stopped 34-of-35 shots on net, earning his sixth victory of the season. Manchester went 0-for-6 on the power play. Worcester was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.

Vs. Bridgeport (3/12): A total of 12 different players recorded a point in the contest, as the Manchester Monarchs recorded a 7-0 shutout of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday evening at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Center Justin Azevedo, defenseman Jordan Hill, defenseman Jake Muzzin, right wing Oscar Moller, right wing John Zeiler (2) and right wing Justin Johnson found the back of the net for the Monarchs. Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (16-12-5) earned his 16th victory of the season and his second shutout of the season, stopping all 26 shots on goal for the Monarchs. Sound Tigers netminder Joel Martin (1-11-1) stopped 24-of-31 shots on net, dropping his 11th decision of the season. Manchester went 2-for-5 on the power play. Worcester was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

At Portland (3/13): Right wing Jordan Nolan tipped home the game-winning goal as the Manchester Monarchs regained sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Division with a 4-2 victory over the Portland Pirates Sunday afternoon at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The Monarchs overcame their two-goal deficit with tallies from defenseman Jake Muzzin, right wing John Zeiler, right wing Bud Holloway and Nolan. Center Luke Adam and defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani scored for the Pirates. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (17-12-5) collected his 17th victory of the season, stopping 26-of-28 shots on goal. Pirates netminder David Leggio (19-5-0) drew his fifth loss of the season, halting 34-of-37 shots on goal. Manchester went 0-for-6 on the power play. Portland was 1-for-5 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The race for first place and third place in the Atlantic Division is coming down to the wire. The Manchester Monarchs (40-21-2-6, 88 points) have re-gained their lead in the division with a 4-2 win over the second place Portland Pirates (40-18-5-2, 87 points) on Sunday afternoon. The Connecticut Whale (33-26-2-6, 74) and the Worcester Sharks (31-24-4-8, 74 points) are tied for third place in the division with 74 points. The Springfield Falcons (30-32-2-3, 65 points) find themselves in a tie for fifth place with the Providence Bruins (30-32-3-2, 65 points). The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (22-36-3-5, 52 points) sit in seventh place in the division with 52 points.

Manchester ‚¬â„¢s power play is ranked 13th in the AHL as they have scored 61 goals on 334 opportunities for an 18.3% conversion rate. On the penalty kill, the Monarchs are ranked fifth in the league as they have given up 45 goals when they have been down a man. They have been shorthanded 302 times this season and have an 85.1% penalty kill rating.

Manchester ‚¬â„¢s home power play unit ranks eighth overall out of 30 AHL teams, scoring 37 goals with the man advantage in 178 opportunities for a 20.8% conversion rate.

Left wing Bud Holloway (24-27=51) leads the Monarchs in points with 51 to his credit.

Holloway was held to just one points, a goal, in four games this week.

Right wing Oscar Moller (20-27=47) ranks second on the Monarchs with 47 points.

Moller collected three goals and two assists for five points in his last four games.

Moller ‚¬â„¢s game-winning overtime goal on Friday, March 4 against Worcester gave him six winning tallies on the season to tie him for fifth place in the AHL.

Moller has eclipsed his previous career-high of 15 goals, as he has accumulated 20 markers during the 2010-11 campaign.

Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov picked up four assists in his last four games to bring his point total on the season to 45 points (13-32=45) and moved him into sole possession of third place on the Monarchs.

Voynov ‚¬â„¢s 45 points also place him in a tie for seventh overall in the AHL among blueliners in points.

Voynov ‚¬â„¢s 13 goals are tied for the league lead among defensemen.

Voynov also leads the Monarchs squad with a plus-21 rating.

Center Justin Azevedo is ranked fourth on the Monarchs with 43 points (17-26=43).

Azevedo ‚¬â„¢s game-winning goal on Saturday brings him to seven game-winning goals on the season which ties him for the league lead in that category.

Left wing Dwight King (20-22=42) is tied with right wing Brandon Kozun (20-22=42) for fifth place on the team with 42 points and second place in goal scoring with 20 tallies.

Kozun ‚¬â„¢s seven-game point streak was halted on Friday against the Sharks. During his streak, Kozun recorded five goals and seven assists for 12 points (5-7=12).

Kozun has recorded nine goals and nine assists for 18 points (9-9=18) in his last 15 games, dating back to February 11 against Portland.

Kozun garnered Reebok/AHL Rookie of the Month honors for February, as he recorded eight goals and seven assists for 15 points (8-7=15) in 13 games for the Monarchs during the month.

Center Corey Elkins (17-22=39) has recorded three goals and three assists (3-3=6) in his last seven games, giving him 39 points on the season, ranking him seventh on the Monarchs in points.

Center Marc-Andre Cliche (14-20=34) ranks eighth on the Monarchs in points with 34.

Cliche, with 14 goals, has already eclipsed his previous career-highs of 11 goals, set in both the 2007-08 and the 2009-10 Monarchs seasons.

Center Andrei Loktionov (8-23=31) is ranked ninth on the Monarchs in scoring with 31 points.

Loktionov, recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on January 20, returned to the Monarchs line-up on Sunday, February 20. Skating in his first game at the Verizon Wireless Arena since his recent call up to the Kings, Loktionov suffered a shoulder injury on Friday, February 25 against the Sound Tigers. The second-year center had shoulder surgery in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 3 and is expected to be sidelined until training camp.

Loktionov recorded seven points (4-3=7) and two penalty minutes in 19 games with the Kings this season.

Right wing John Zeiler (7-19=26) recorded three goals and two assists for five points in his last three games.

Left wing Richard Clune (8-14=22) is ranked fifth in the AHL with 218 penalty minutes.

Netminder Jeff Zatkoff has a record of 17-12-5 with a 2.75 goals-against-average and a .908 save percentage in 37 games this season.

Zatkoff is undefeated in regulation in his last five games with a record of 4-0-1 with a 1.17 goals-against-average, a .960 save percentage and two shutouts.

Goaltender Martin Jones has played in 36 games with the Monarchs and has collected a record of 22-10-1 with a 2.30 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage.

MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS

3/11/11: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) signed defenseman Jordan Hill to a professional tryout agreement.

2/28/11: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) acquired forward Dustin Penner from the Edmonton Oilers (NHL) in exchange for defenseman Colten Teubert, a first-round draft pick in 2011 and a conditional third-round draft pick in 2012.

2/20/11: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) returned center Andrei Loktionov to the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).
