Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Oklahoma City - The Edmonton Oilers, parent club of the Oklahoma City Barons, recalled forward Teemu Hartikainen (hart-uh-kye-nen) and assigned forward Alex Giroux (zhuh-roo) to Oklahoma City, Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini announced today.

Hartikainen, a 6-1, 215-pounder from Kuopio, Finland has skated in all 66 of the Barons games this season, recording 42 points (17-25-42). Those 42 points are good for a tie for fifth in scoring among rookies in the American Hockey League. His biggest impact came during the month of January when he recorded 14 points (4-10-14) and earned AHL Rookie of the Month honors.

The Oilers 6th round draft choice (163rd overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft is expected to join the team in Edmonton as the Oilers prepare to take on the Phoenix Coyotes at Rexall Place this Thursday at 8 p.m. (CT).

Giroux a 6-2, 200-pounder from Quebec City was recalled March 5 by the Oilers. He appeared in five games with the Oilers, registering a goal and an assist. He returns to the Barons as the team's leader in goals (29) and points (65). His 65 points are good for second in the AHL, while his 29 goals put him third. He is expected to join the Barons in Peoria for the start of their nine-game road trip tomorrow night at 7 p.m. (CT).

Hartikainen is the 11th player recalled by the Oilers from the Barons roster this season. Others recalled this season include goaltender Martin Gerber, forwards Ryan O'Marra, Liam Reddox, Linus Omark and Giroux and defensemen Shawn Belle, Taylor Chorney, Richard Petiot, Alex Plante and Jeff Petry. Four of those players, Omark, Reddox, Petry and Chorney are still on the Oilers roster.

The Barons begin a season-long nine-game road trip tomorrow night in Peoria against the Rivermen. Faceoff is at 7 p.m. (CT) on AM 1000 KTOK. Oklahoma City will skate in five games over a six-night stretch this week. This week's slate of games includes stops in Grand Rapids, Rockford and Chicago.
