Zolnierczyk Signs ATO with Phantoms

This past week, the Philadelphia Flyers announced the signing of free agent forward Harry Zolnierczyk from Brown University to an entry level contract that will begin at the start of the 2011-2012 season.

Zolnierczyk, 23, signed an Amateur Tryout Agreement (ATO) with the Adirondack Phantoms and made his professional debut on Friday night against the Albany Devils.

In his opening weekend with the Phantoms, he recorded four shots on goal and four PIM's.

He was the captain of the Bears in his senior season and was named Ivy League Player of the Year, while also earning ECAC Player of the Week honors twice this season. In 30 games with Brown University this season, Zolnierczyk had a team-high 16 goals and tied for the team lead in overall scoring with 31 points.

In 114 career games over his four seasons at Brown, Zolnierczyk recorded 30 goals and 39 assists for 69 points, along with 238 penalty minutes.

vs. Binghamton Senators (34-25-3-4, 75 pts)

5th Place in East Division, Eastern Conference

This will be the seventh of eight meetings between the Phantoms and Senators this season. This is the last time that Binghamton with visit the Glens Falls Civic Center this season. Binghamton leads the season series 4-2. The Senators come into the game losing three of their last four and five of their last seven. The Senators currently hold the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference by 1 point over the Connecticut Whale and Worcester Sharks. The Ottawa Senators, Binghamton's NHL affiliate, currently has forwards Erik Condra, Bobby Butler, Colin Greening, Francis Lessard and Zack Smith on recall. Ryan Keller leads the Sens with 26 goals in 57 games while Corey Locke has a team-high and league-high 57 assists and 75 points in 58 games this season. Goaltenders Barry Brust (25-15-0-1, 2.56 GAA), Rookie Robin Lehner (7-7-0-2, 2.81 GAA) and Mike Brodeur (2-5-0-0, 3.25 GAA) have split time in goal with the Sens. Binghamton comes in with the 2nd best power play in the AHL (22.5%) and 16th on the penalty kill (82.3%).

Three-Game Road trip Begins in Toronto

2nd Place in North Division, Western Conference

This will be the final meeting between the Phantoms and Marlies this season. Toronto leads the season series 1-0 after defeating the Phantoms back on November 11th at the Glens Falls Civic Center 5-1. Stefan Legein opened the scoring for Adirondack 5:56 into the first period and gave the Phantoms a 1-0 lead but Mike Zigomanis, Alex Foster, Justin Hodgman, Joey Crabb and Greg Scott tallied goals for the Marlies. Johan Backlund made 16 saves on 21 shots while Marlies netminder Jussi Rynnas stopped 26. Rookie Joe Colborne leads the Marlies with 18 goals in 66 games while Mike Zigomanis has a team-high 33 assists and 47 points in 62 games this season. Rookie netminders Jussi Rynnas (9-14-0-3, 2.80 GAA) and Ben Scrivens (11-7-0-4, 2.32 GAA) have shared time in goal as James Reimer and Jonas Gustavsson remain up with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Marlies are 14-0-0-1 when leading after the second period but are 1-12-0-1 when trailing after 2. Toronto is ranked 25th in the AHL on the power play (14.7 %) but are a league best on the penalty kill allowing only opponents to score 40 goals on 305 attempts (86.9%).Toronto is 5-3-1-1 in their last ten games and currently trail the Manitoba Moose for first place by two points.

Week 22 Game Results

March 11, 2011 - Albany 2 @ Adirondack 1

In a game that saw a combined 130 penalty minutes, Tim Sestito (4th) scored the eventual game-winner 4:24 into the third period to lead Albany to a 2-1 victory at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Friday night. After scoring four goals in the final 9 minutes in Albany's 5-4 comeback win on Wednesday night against Bridgeport, Chad Wiseman (11th) gave Albany an early 1-0 lead as he one-timed a Jay Leach pass. Late in the first period, Eric Wellwood (14th) tied the score, shorthanded, at 1-1 after a great feed by Rob Bordson. The game would remain tied until Tim Sestito's goal early in the third. The story of the game though was the emotions between the two rivals. Late in the second period when Adirondack's Andrew Rowe ran into Albany goalie Mike McKenna. It is unclear whether Albany's Darcy Zajac might have pushed Rowe on the play. After the collision, McKenna went after Rowe but backed off when he saw Zajac jump in. Then various players paired off including Kalinski stepping up for Rowe to go at Zajac. Kevin Marshall was engaged with Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond while Andrew Rowe was tangled for a bit with Albany's Louis Robitaille.Three players received game misconducts in the game including Jon Kalinski and Zac Rinaldo for the Phantoms and Darcy Zajac of Albany. Phantoms goaltender Johan Backlund finished with 18 saves while counterpart Mike McKenna earned his 11th win of the season and second consecutive victory against Adirondack. The Phantoms went 0-for-5 on the power play but were 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

March 12, 2011 - Hershey 3 @ Adirondack 2 (OT)

On Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame Night at the Glens Falls Civic Center, ex-Philadelphia Phantom, Kyle Greentree, scored the game-winning goal on the power play 2:20 into overtime leading the Hershey Bears to a 3-2 victory on Saturday night. After a scoreless opening period, Mike Testwuide gave Adirondack a 1-0 lead as he tallied his 10th goal of the season. On a Michael Ryan shot from the left point, Testwuide picked up the rebound and poked it past Todd Ford. Hershey would tie the score on the power play at 1-1. Brian Fahey's (4th) shot from center point beat Phantoms goaltender Michael Leighton blocker side with 4 seconds remaining on the Bears second 5-on-3 of the game. The game would remain tied until Bears forward Andrew Carroll scored his third goal of the season and gave Hershey a 2-1 lead 6:49 into the third period. Carroll picked off a Phantoms pass and was all alone to front of the goal to give the Bears their first lead of the game. Newly acquired Tom Sestito tied the game at 2-2 on his first goal as an Adirondack Phantom after he cut across the Bears crease and then backhanding one past the Hershey netminder. In overtime, Michael Ryan was called for goaltender interference after colliding with Todd Ford behind the Bears net. After a failed clearing attempt, Brian Willsie picked up a loose puck and fed Kyle Greentree for his 24th goal of the season & the clincher. Adirondack finished 0-for-5 on the power play while Hershey went 2-for-9 which included three 5-on-3's in the game. Michael Leighton made 26 saves while Todd Ford earned his seventh of the season stopping 19 shots.

March 13, 2011 - Adirondack 3 at Springfield 0

Michael Leighton made 28 saves to earn his third shutout of the season and as an Adirondack Phantom to lead the Phantoms to a season swept over the Springfield Falcons on Sunday afternoon. It was Leighton's seventh win this season and 32nd career AHL shutout. Mike Testwuide led the way for Adirondack as he scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season. It was his second multi-goal game of his career. Denis Hamel added an empty netter late in the game to score his 21st of the season. Both Adirondack and Springfield went 0-for-2 on the power play.

-Mike Testwuide has tallied a goal in five of the last six games. He has 10 goals and 6 assists over the last 16 games

-Tom Sestito scored the game-tying goal late in the third period on Saturday night against the Hershey Bears. It was his first goal as a member of the Adirondack Phantoms. In 46 games with the Springfield Falcons, he posted 11 goals and 32 points.

-Michael Leighton posted his third shutout this season and 32nd of his AHL career on Sunday in Springfield.

-Forward Ben Holmstrom is the only Adirondack Phantom to have appeared in every game this season (65).

-When leading after 2 periods this season, Adirondack is 9-1-1-3.
