Oklahoma City Barons News Release
PACK WISELY: The Barons left today (Monday) to begin a season-high 9-game trip spanning 14 days. The trip opens with a Tuesday game at Peoria, beginning the Barons' second and final stretch of 5 games in 6 nights. The Barons are 18-9-0-1 on the road in a league-low 28 games away from home. The week begins with the Barons seventh in the 8-team West Division with 75 points, 1 back of sixth and 4 behind a fourth-place tie between Peoria and Chicago.
ROOKIES HEAT UP: Barons rookies Mark Arcobello and Chris Vandevelde each had 3-goal weeks in the action that ended with Saturday's 5-2 defeat against Grand Rapids. Arcobello, an ECHL All-Star this season while at Stockton, scored on Thursday at San Antonio and followed with his first AHL 2-goal game on Friday in a 6-5 overtime win. Vandevelde built his first 3-game goal streak with tallies Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
TURNAROUND TIME: OKC's offensive output in Friday's 6-5 OT win over Grand Rapids snapped a stretch of 14 games during which the Barons did not score more than 3 in a single contest. Prior to Friday, the last time they had totaled more than 3 was Jan. 29 vs. Chicago in a 5-2 win. They went 7-7 in that string of 3-goal or fewer games. Their 2 power play goals on Friday marked the first time since Jan. 23, a span of 17 games, they tallied more than 1 man advantage goal. OKC was 2-for-3 on Friday on the power play.
RADIO UPDATE: Tuesday's broadcast from Peoria will air live on News Radio 1000 KTOK because of Oklahoma State's first-round game in the NIT basketball tournament. The location of the Barons' radio broadcasts for Friday through Sunday's games will be determined this week based on whether the Cowboys advance and if so, the date and time of the second-round game. The games will air on either primary station KXY 96.1 FM or, in the event of a basketball conflict, on KTOK. Updates on the location of the broadcasts will appear on the team's official website, www.okcbarons.com, when the information is available.
