Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire – The Manchester Monarchs have signed left wing Noah Clarke and defenseman Jon Insana and released right wing George Parros, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today. The Monarchs parent club, the Los Angeles Kings, and Senior Vice President/General Manager Dave Taylor also announced today that Clarke has agreed to terms on a one-year contract for next season.

Clarke, 23, appeared in 42 games with the Colorado College Tigers of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association during the 2002-03 season, recording 70 points (21-49=70) and 15 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-9, 175-pound native of LaVerne, California, finished second on the Tigers and third in the nation in scoring and his 49 assists led the nation. Clarke, selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the ninth round (#250 overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, saw his college career end last week when the Michigan Wolverines beat the Tigers in the 2003 NCAA Midwest Regional at Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Insana, 22, has nine points (3-6=9) and 34 penalty minutes in 43 East Coast Hockey League games with the Trenton Titans and the Florida Everblades this season. The 6-foot-0, 183-pound native of New Baltimore, Michigan, was acquired by the Everblades from the Titans on February 10, 2003. Prior to his stint in the ECHL, Insana patrolled the blue line for the Michigan State Spartans for four seasons (1998-2002), totaling 16 points (7-9=16) and 190 penalty minutes in 164 games. Insana also skated for the U.S. Junior National Team during the 1997-98 season.

Parros, 23, recorded one point (an assist) and seven penalty minutes in nine games with the Monarchs. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound native of Randolph, New Jersey, signed with the Monarchs on March 14, 2003 after his college career ended with the elimination of the Princeton Tigers from East Coast Athletic Conference post season play. Parros, an eighth round pick (#222 overall) of the Kings in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, had seven assists and 29 penalty minutes in 22 games with the Tigers during his senior season.

With three regular season games remaining, the Monarchs (39-22-10-6, 94 points), who play at the Worcester Centrum Centre on Friday, April 4 against the Worcester IceCats, need just one more win or tie to lock up fourth place in the Eastern Conference and home ice advantage in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs. If the Monarchs do finish fourth, they will begin a best-of-five first round playoff series on Saturday, April 12 at the Verizon Wireless Arena starting at 7:35 p.m. In the same playoff scenario, the Monarchs will also host the fifth seed on Sunday, April 13th at 4:05 p.m., before playing at the fifth seed's home site on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19th if necessary. If a fifth game is necessary, it will be played at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Tuesday, April 22nd at 7:05 p.m. Who the Monarchs could face in the first round remains unclear, as Bridgeport, Binghamton Worcester and Hartford could all finish fifth in the conference.

Playoff tickets for the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs will go on sale to the general public on Monday, April 7 at 10:00 a.m. Tickets to all Monarchs playoff games can be purchased at the Verizon Wireless Arena Box Office and at all Ticketmaster locations, by calling (603) 868-7300, or by visiting Ticketmaster on-line at ticketmaster.com.
