LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
At Lowell (10/17): Ten goals, three fisticuffs, 16 power plays, 74 shots, 64 saves and one shorthanded tally highlighted the Manchester Monarchs 6-4 triumph over the Lowell Devils at the Tsongas Arena on Friday night. Manchester picked up tallies from right wing Teddy Purcell (two), center Bud Holloway, center Trevor Lewis, right wing Vladimir Dravecky and left wing Paul Crosty. The Devils picked up goals from right wing Patrick Davis, center Pascal Rheaume, defenseman Tyler Eckford and defenseman Jay Leach. Monarchs' netminder Jonathan Bernier earned his first win of the season stopping 29-of-33 shots. Devils' goaltender Scott Clemmensen took the loss with 35 saves. Manchester went 0-for-9 on the power play. Lowell was 2-for-7 with the man advantage.
Vs. Lowell (10/18): Left wing Ryan Murphy tipped in the game-winning goal with less than four minutes on the clock to edge the Lowell Devils past the Manchester Monarchs 2-1 at the Home Opener at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Monarchs center David Meckler scored the lone goal for the home team. Center Rod Pelley scored early in the first period for the Devils. Monarchs' goaltender Jonathan Quick took the loss with 39 saves. Devils' netminder Scott Clemmensen earned the win stopping 18-of-19 shots. Manchester went 1-for-6 on the power play. Lowell was 1-for-8 with the man advantage.
Vs. Springfield (10/19): The Manchester Monarchs dropped their second home game of the season to the Springfield Falcons in a 4-1 contest at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday evening. Right wing Teddy Purcell tallied the lone Monarchs goal. Left wing Viacheslav Trukhno, center Tim Sestito (two) and left wing Stephane Goulet scored goals for the Falcons. Monarchs' goaltender Jonathan Bernier took the loss with 24 saves. Falcons' netminder Devan Dubnyk earned the win stopping 32 shots. Manchester was 0-for-6 on the power play. Springfield went 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS
10/17/08: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) signed defenseman Andrew Campbell to a multi-year contract and assigned him to the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Monarchs are 2-for-6 in season openers. This is the third time in Manchester's history that the team has opened their season on the road, each time losing in the opener. The Monarchs fell to Lowell 6-3 in 2001, dropped the opener to Hartford 4-3 in 2006 and then lost on Saturday, October 11 to Portland 6-3.

In the first back-to-back home games in a season, the Monarchs have a record of 5-3 in the second game of the homestand. Ironically, when Manchester has won the first contest of the first two games in two nights at the Verizon Wireless Arena in a season, they have also won the second game. Unfortunately, when they lose the first game, they have also lost the second game.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
Manchester is currently tied for fifth place in the Atlantic Division after four games with a record of 1-3-0-0 and two points.
The Monarchs are ranked for 26th in the AHL on the power play. The team is 2-for-27 with the man advantage for a
7.4-percent rating.
Manchester is ranked 18th in the AHL on the penalty kill. The team has stopped their opponent 22 times on 27 opportunities for an 81.5-percent rating.
Center Gabe Gauthier leads the Monarchs after four games with a goal and five assists for six points. The third year center finished third on Manchester's squad during the 2007-08 season with 60 points (23-37=60).
Gauthier (1-5=6) is the only player to collect at least one point in all four of the Monarchs games this season.
The 5-foot-9, 193-pound native of Torrance, California, assisted on three goals in Friday's 6-4 win over the Devils. His plus/minus rating of plus-3 on Friday, along with center Michel Leveille's plus-3 rating in the game, tied a franchise record for the highest plus/minus in one game. Gauthier and Leveille's rating tied the feat that defenseman Joe Rullier set against the Utah Grizzlies in the Monarchs 5-3 win on October 20, 2004.
Gauthier is tied for eighth place on the Monarchs all-time assist list with right wing Brad Smyth. Gauthier has 70 assists in 134 games with the Monarchs since 2006. He is also ranked 10th on the Monarchs all-time goals list with 38 tallies and ninth in scoring with 108 points.
Gauthier's five assists are tied for sixth place in the AHL.
Holloway's two-game goal streak ended on Saturday, October 18 when he was held off the scoreboard. The rookie scored his first professional goal on Saturday, October 11 in the Monarchs 6-3 loss to the Portland Pirates at the Cumberland County Civic Center. He also tallied against the Lowell Devils in Manchester's 6-4 win at the Tsongas Arena on Friday, October 17.
Defenseman Josh Kidd scored the first goal of the 2008-09 season for the Monarchs in the teams 6-3 defeat to the Portland Pirates on Saturday, October 11.
Left wing Paul Crosty scored the game-winning goal in Friday's 6-4 win over the Devils. Over the last three seasons with the Monarchs, Crosty has three goals and seven assists for 10 points. Friday's game-winning tally is the second of his professional career. Crosty scored the game-winning goal for the Monarchs in the team's 5-1 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the Arena at Harbor Yard on December 22, 2007.
Reigning AHL Rookie of the Year right Teddy Purcell scored two goals in Friday's 6-4 win over the Devils. He scored the first goal and last goal of the game. Purcell led the Monarchs and AHL rookies in scoring during the 2007-08 season with 83 points (25-58=83).
Purcell's first goal of Friday's game was a shorthanded goal, his first of his professional career and the first for the Monarchs this season.
Right wing Vladimir Dravecky scored his first goal of the season on Friday night against the Devils.
