Houston Aeros News Release
THIS WEEK'S GAMES
The Aeros will take their perfect 4-0-0-0 record on the road to the North Division this week with two games in Manitoba on Friday and Saturday and a visit to Toronto on Sunday. The trip will be the only visit to those teams during the 2008-09 season and each club will come to Houston later this year.
The Aeros will take their annual trip to Winnipeg this weekend to take on the Manitoba Moose before the temperature drops too far. Houston is currently riding a seven-game winning streak against Manitoba dating back to the 2006-07 season. Houston's last loss came on 12/13/06 at Toyota Center. Houston tallied a perfect 4-0 record against the Moose last season outscoring Manitoba 13-5. The wins included a 2-1 shootout victory in Manitoba during the first meeting on December 7 and a 3-0 shutout courtesy of Nolan Schaefer on January 10 in Houston.
Schaefer has a 6-6-1 record all-time against Manitoba (3-0-0 last season) with a 2.93 goals against average (GAA) and a .901 save percentage. He allowed only four goals in three games including the shutout. Barry Brust also earned a win in his only career-appearance against the Moose allowing only one goal on 39 shots.
Since the inception of the Toronto Marlies in 2005, the Aeros have only been able to take one victory in the six all-time meetings. Houston is 1-4-1-0 against the Marlies with a current streak of 0-3-1-0 having taken one point last season.
After playing in the North Division for his first four AHL seasons, Houston's leading point scorer Corey Locke leads the Aeros in most career-points against Toronto with 24 (11 goals, 13 assists) in 36 games. Jesse Schultz, having played three full season with the Moose, has a total of 20 points (11-9=20) in 18 games against the Marlies.
WEEK IN REVIEW
Houston continued their winning ways taking four points from San Antonio in both games this weekend. Saturday, the Aeros tied their record for most goals in a game at eight and helped set a new franchise record of 14 combined goals in a game. The 8-6 Aeros win at Toyota Center included Locke tallying all four of his points (2-2=4) in the third period setting Houston's record for most points in a period. Locke's goals included the game-winner scored on a power-play and an empty-net insurance goal.
The Aeros remained undefeated after Sunday's 4-3 win in San Antonio, the first road test of the season. Houston is one of only two teams in the AHL without a loss. The North Division's Hamilton Bulldogs is the other team sharing the same record. Houston is now riding a six-game winning streak including the final two regular-season games of the 2007-08 campaign. Schultz's first period goal marked the 200th point for his AHL career. Schultz, Ryan Hamilton and Locke each extended their respective point streaks with Locke's performance placing him in the top ten of AHL point scorers.
