10.17.08 - Worcester 4 - Albany 5 - Glens Falls Arena

P.J. Fenton and Michael Wilson scored their first professional goals but the Sharks could not hold onto a one goal lead late in the third period as Albany defeated Worcester 5-4 at the Glens Fall Arena. Matt Jones and Jamie McGinn recorded their first goals of the season and Patrick Traverse added two assists. The game featured three fights, one in each period, as Frazer McLaren, Jamie McGinn, and Brett Westgarth all received majors. The Sharks allowed two shorthanded goals while Thomas Greiss made 21 saves in net.

10.18.08 - Worcester 3 - Providence 2 OT - DCU Center

Ryan Vesce deflected a 50 foot laser from Kyle McLaren past Bruins netminder Tuuka Rask with just 20 seconds remaining in overtime in front of a sell out crowd at the DCU Center on Saturday night. P.J. Fenton and Riley Armstrong gave the Sharks a 2-0 lead but the Providence Bruin stormed back with two goals late in the third period. Thomas Greiss made some key saves in his first victory of the season making 18 saves in net. Kyle McLaren recorded two assists in his first home game for the Sharks. The Sharks outshot the Bruins 34-20 in Providence's first defeat of the season.

Sharks in the Atlantic...

The Sharks (1-2-0-0) swim in fifth place with two points in the Atlantic Division, seven points behind the first-place Providence Bruins (4-0-1-0).

Sharks Bites:

* The Sharks have scored the first goal in all three games this season. (Larose, Fenton, McGinn)

* Worcester leads the AHL with 38.33 shots per game with an AHL high 43 shots at Lowell on 10/11.

* D Kyle McLaren recorded two assists in his first home game on Saturday (10/18). The veteran of 719 NHL games played, recorded the assist on the OT GWG vs. Providence on the 18th.

*C Cory Larose scored two goals in the first period (10/11) in his debut for the Worcester Sharks last Saturday. The ninth season professional, scored a career high 32 goals with the Houston Aeros in 2001-02.

*RW Ryan Vesce recorded his first goal as a Shark, the game winning goal with just 20 seconds remaining in overtime on Saturday (10/18) in his first home game in a Sharks uniform. The Lloyd Harbor, NY native was named the second captain in team history prior to the start of the season.

*D Rookie Michael Wilson recorded his first professional goal in a 5-4 loss in Glens Falls on Friday (10/17).

*LW Rookie Jamie McGinn has started the season with a three game point streak (2-1-3), leads the team with 16 shots and picked up first professional fighting major penalty against Albany on Friday (10/17).

*LW Rookie Frazer McLaren recorded his first professional goal midway through the second period against the Devils on 10/12 and leads the team with two fighting majors.

*LW P.J Fenton has recoded three points (1-2-3) in his first three game played including his first professional goal on Friday (10/17) in Glens Falls.

*The San Jose Sharks re-assigned forward Ashton Rome to Phoenix (ECHL) from Worcester on Tuesday (10/14).

*The Worcester Sharks loaned center Matt Fornataro to Phoenix (ECHL) on Tuesday (10/14).

*The Worcester Sharks signed right wing Dan DaSilva to an AHL contract on Tuesday (10/14).

Worcester to host the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Charter Communications!

The Sharks and the city of Worcester will host the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Charter Communications on January 25th and 26th at the DCU Center. Tickets will be on sale to the general public on Saturday, October 18th at 12 p.m. The 2009 event in Worcester will mark the fourth time since it was revived in 1995 that the AHL All-Star Classic will take place in New England. The AHL All-Star Classic was last held in Massachusetts in 1959 at the Eastern States Coliseum in West Springfield.

The Sharks continue their opening four game home stand with a battle against the Hartford Wolf Pack on Wednesday (Oct. 22nd), Providence on Friday (Oct. 24th), and Bridgeport on Saturday (Oct. 25th).
