Manchester Monarchs News Release


At San Antonio (10/21): The San Antonio Rampage edged the Manchester Monarchs, 4-3, in a shootout at the SBC Center on Friday night. Right wings Konstantin Pushkarev and Lauri Tukonen and left wing Jeff Giuliano tallied for the Monarchs. Left wing Steve Gainey and centers Layne Ulmer and Mike Podlesak scored power play goals for the Rampage. Center Mike Bishai and Ulmer beat Monarchs goaltender Adam Hauser for the shootout win. Right wing Brad Smyth was the only Monarchs player to convert in the shootout. Hauser (1-2-1) took his first shootout loss of the season, stopping 26 shots. Rampage goaltender Steve Passmore earned his fourth win by making 28 saves on 31 shots. Manchester went 0-for-7 on the power play while San Antonio was 3-for-11.

At Houston (10/22): Defenseman Marty Wilford scored at 3:04 of overtime to lift the Manchester Monarchs over the Houston Aeros, 2-1, at the Toyota Center on Saturday night. Right wing Kirby Law scored the lone Aeros goal, shorthanded at 2:25 of the first period. Left wing Jeff Giuliano scored a five-on-three shorthanded goal for the Monarchs to tie the game at 1-1. Monarchs goaltender Barry Brust earned his first AHL win, stopping 26 shots. Aeros goaltender Josh Harding took the loss, stopping 44 shots. Manchester went 1-for-7 on the power play while Houston was 0-for-6.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Monarchs (2-2-0-1) are currently tied for fourth place in the Atlantic Division.

The Monarchs blanked their opposition on the power play for the first time this season on Saturday night as the Aeros went 0-for-7 on the power play. The Monarchs have given up nine goals on 45 attempts by their opponent for an 80 percent penalty kill rate.

Left wing Jeff Giuliano appeared in his 200th AHL game, all with the Monarchs, on Friday night against the San Antonio Rampage.

Defenseman Marty Wilford scored the game-winning power play goal in his 400th career AHL game on Saturday night in Houston. Over the last six seasons (2000-present), Wilford has played for the Norfolk Admirals, the St. John's Maple Leafs, the Milwaukee Admirals, the Hartford Wolf Pack and the Monarchs.

Goaltender Barry Brust appeared in his first AHL game against the Houston Aeros on Saturday night. The 6-foot-2, 216-pound native of Swan River, Manitoba, earned his first win by stopping 26 of the Aeros 27 shots.

Registering 24 saves in Friday's game against San Antonio, goaltender Adam Hauser surpassed the 2,000 AHL saves plateau and 3,000 saves as a professional in four years (2002-present). Hauser has appeared in 79 games with the Monarchs over the last three seasons (2003-04, 2004-05 and 2005-06), collecting a record of 40-28-8, a goals-against-average of 2.00 and a save-percentage of .928.

Right wing Brad Smyth's assist on Giuliano's tying goal in San Antonio on Friday night moved him into sole possession of 42nd place on the AHL's all-time regular season point list. Smyth has 583 points (292-291=583) in 535 games over nine seasons (1994-present).

Former Monarchs right wing George Parros scored his first NHL goal on Thursday night in the Los Angeles Kings 7-2 victory over the Dallas Stars. Parros appeared in 133 games with the Monarchs during the 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons, collecting 32 points (17-15=32) and 380 penalty minutes. In nine games with the Kings this season, Parros has four points (1-3=4), 26 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of plus five.

MONARCHS PROMOTIONS
Monarchs Give Back The Greenbacks/Union Leader Family Value Night - The first 3,000 fans attending the Monarchs game against the 2005 Calder Cup champion Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, October 29, 2005, at the Verizon Wireless Arena will have a chance to receive cash prizes as part of the Monarchs Give Back The Greenbacks promotion. The Monarchs will hand out 1,700 envelopes containing money totaling $10,000 and 1,300 envelopes with $5 gift certificates to the Monarchs Pro Shop to the first 3,000 fans. Saturday's game is also the first of five Union Leader Family Value Nights where fans can purchase four tickets (Silver level), four hot dogs or four pretzels and four sodas for just $44. MONARCHS EVENTS
Open Practice: The Monarchs will practice at the JFK Ice Arena from 5:45-7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25. Following practice, the players will sign autographs and meet with fans.

Youth Hockey Practice: Centers Matt Ryan and Connor James will help out and sign autographs at the Manchester Flames Mite 1, Squirt 1 and Squirt 3 practices at the West Side Arena on Wednesday, October 26 from 4:15-7:15 pm.

Defenseman Richard Petiot and goaltender Barry Brust will help out and sign autographs at the Manchester Flames Mite 2 practice at the West Side Arena on Thursday, October 27 from 4:15-5:30 pm.

Defenseman Denis Grebeshkov and right wing Konstantin Pushkarev will help out and sign autographs at the Manchester Flames PW 1, PW 2 and PW 3 practices at the West Side Arena on Thursday, October 27 from 5:30-8 pm.
