NORFOLK, VA - The Admirals faced the Philadelphia Phantoms twice this past weekend, firing 44 shots on net each night, but failing to come away with a win. On October 21st, Norfolk held a 2-1 lead after one period on goals by Anton Babchuk and Nick Kuiper, but eventually fell in a shootout 3-2. On October 22nd, the Admirals again put up 44 shots, including 22 in the third period, but couldn't beat Jamie Storr as Philadelphia came out on top 1-0.

Norfolk faces former East Division foes, the Albany River Rats (New Jersey Devils), on Friday and Saturday at Scope at 7:15 p.m. each night.

STANDINGS

At 1-4-0-1 (3 pts), Norfolk is currently fifth in the East. The division is led by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (7-0-0-0, 14 pts) followed by Hershey (4-2-0-1, 9 pts), Philadelphia (8-1-0-0, 8 pts) and Bridgeport (2-3-1-0, 5 pts). Binghamton (0-4-1-0, 1pt) sits in sixth place.

TEAM NOTEBOOK

- Norfolk has outshot each of its opponents thus far this season, and has totaled 231 shots to 141 by its foes. The Admirals have taken at least 32 shots while holding the opposition to 26 or fewer shots in each of their six games. - This past weekend, the Admirals out-shot Philadelphia 88-51, registering 44 shots each of their two games. - This is the first AHL campaign in which Norfolk has a losing record six games into the season (1-4-0-1). - Norfolk dropped a 1-0 decision to Philadelphia on October 22nd, its first such loss since January 26, 2005 vs. Hartford (1-0 SOL). Last year, the Admirals were 24-0-0-1 when allowing one or no goals. The squad's last 1-0 regulation loss was on January 11, 2004 vs. Bridgeport. - D Nick Kuiper scored one of the Ads' two goals on October 21st, his first tally since March 11th of last season, a span of 22 games. - LW Quintin Laing had a three-game assist/point streak (October 14-21) snapped on Saturday.
