Adirondack Phantoms News Release

Strong goaltending and the continued offensive prowess of R.J. Umberger carried the Phantoms to a weekend sweep of the Norfolk Admirals. On Friday, Rejean Beauchemin turned in his second stellar outing in net in a 3-2 shootout win, making 42 saves in regulation and blanking the Admirals in the shootout. Meanwhile, Umberger had a hand in all the Phantoms scoring for the evening, picking up a goal and an assist before scoring the lone shootout goal. Beauchemin and Umberger earned the game's No. 1 and No. 2 stars, respectively.

On Saturday, Jamie Storr stepped up between the pipes and weaved a 44-save shutout in a Phantoms 1-0 win. The game was scoreless until the early stages of the third period. In the frame's first minute, winger Tony Voce forced a turnover behind the Admirals net and fed it in front to Umberger, who fired it past Norfolk netminder Corey Crawford at the 49-second mark for the 1-0 lead and the eventual game winner.

UPCOMING OPPONENTS

The Phantoms wrap up their seven-game road stretch this week with a four-game trip through New England, as they make their only visit of the season to the home buildings of four Atlantic Division clubs.

Wednesday, Oct. 26: PHANTOMS at Lowell, 7:05 - The Phantoms make their only visit of the season to Lowell to take on the Lock Monsters (Carolina Hurricanes/Colorado Avalanche) in the first of two games scheduled between the clubs. Lowell has started off the season with a record of 2-3-0-0 through their first five games. The Phantoms haven't lost in Lowell since a 5-2 setback on Jan. 24, 2001. Philadelphia is 4-0 against Lowell since then, and 4-1-0-1 overall against the Lock Monsters in that period.

Friday, Oct. 28: PHANTOMS at Portland, 7:05 - Philadelphia continues north to meet the Portland Pirates (Cincinnati Mighty Ducks) on Friday night. It's the first of two games between the clubs this year. The Pirates start the week atop the Atlantic Division with a record of 4-2-0-0 on the season.

Saturday, Oct. 29: PHANTOMS at Manchester, 7:35 - The Phantoms and Monarchs (Los Angeles Kings) meet for the first of a pair of games this year. Manchester is off to a 2-2-0-1 start, good for a tie for fourth in the Atlantic Division. Philadelphia has won the last three meetings vs. Manchester, with its last loss to the Monarchs coming on March 13, 2004, a 3-1 setback in Manchester.

Sunday, Oct. 30: PHANTOMS at Springfield, 4:05 - Philadelphia finishes the trip and the month of October on Sunday with an afternoon affair against the Falcons (Tampa Bay Lightning). Springfield is 3-1-1-0 heading into the week, good for second in the Atlantic Division. The Phantoms will be trying to protect a four-game winning streak against Springfield that dates back to the 2001-02 season.

All games will be available for viewing via B2 Networks on the Phantoms website, www.phantomshockey.com. Mike Thornton will provide the play-by-play for the Phantoms, which can be heard by clicking "Road" on the audio selection menu.

The Phantoms return home to open the Wachovia Spectrum portion of their schedule on Nov. 4 versus the Hershey Bears, when they will raise their Calder Cup and Eastern Conference championship banners to the rafters.

CCM VECTOR/AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE

The Phantoms have nominated center R.J. Umberger for AHL Player of the Week honors. Umberger carried the Phantoms offensively during their weekend sweep of Norfolk. On Friday, Umberger scored an unassisted, shorthanded goal and then assisted on the game-tying goal in regulation. In the shootout, Umberger was the only successful shooter on either team, giving the Phantoms a 1-0 advantage in the shootout and the subsequent 3-2 win. On Saturday, Umberger scored the only goal of the game in Philadelphia's 1-0 win over the Admirals. Umberger now has a five-game scoring streak, with at least one point in each of the Phantoms' five games thus far in the season.

STINGY GOALIES

The Phantoms goaltending tandem of Jamie Storr and Rejean Beauchemin was a major part of the two wins in Norfolk. On Friday, Beauchemin made 42 saves on 44 shots before shutting out the Admirals in the shootout session, lifting Philadelphia to a 3-2 shootout win. But Storr did him one better on Saturday, slamming the door on 44 Admirals shots en route to a 1-0 win. Beauchemin and Storr rank fifth and sixth among AHL goaltenders with GAAs of 1.92 and 1.99, respectively.

GETTING IT GOING

Philadelphia will now have to pay for the easy-going first two weeks of the season, beginning with this four-game week. The month of November features 14 games, including two more four-game weeks, giving the Phantoms their busiest month of the season. Philadelphia doesn't have another week with fewer than three games until the week of Dec. 11-16, when it plays just two games.

TALES FROM THE ROAD

The Phantoms are three game into a seven-game road stretch that is tied for the longest such run in team history. Only twice before have the Phantoms been away from home for this long of a period. During the 1999-200 season, the team went 4-3 during a seven-game tour from Jan. 29 - Feb. 12, 2000. In 2003-04, the club was 3-3-1 in a seven-game span from Feb. 21 - Mar. 6, 2004.
