The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights currently rank 17th overall with an 82.7% penalty kill success rate. On the flipside, the Knights are ranked 22nd when they have the man-advantage, scoring just seven power-play goals in 68 opportunities or 10.3%. Goalies Brent Krahn and Curtis McElhinney lay claim to two of the AHL's five shutouts this season. Omaha has earned two points in their three games last week, gaining a point in each of their two shootout losses to Houston. Their 2-3-0-2 record, 6 points, has them tied with Iowa for fourth place in the West Division. They are winless in their last three games. Tomi Maki and Richie Regehr pace the team with five points.

Fri., Oct. 28 @ Grand Rapids Griffins - Grand Rapids, Michigan

The Griffins rank first in the seven team North Division with a record of 5-2, including a 3-1 win at home over Omaha on Saturday. Detroit Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood recently completed his conditioning stint on Saturday, making 35 saves in the Griffins' win. He went 2-1 with a 3.34 GAA and a .882 save percentage in three games with Grand Rapids. Forward, and last week's AHL Player of the Week, Jiri Hudler, leads the entire AHL with 15 points, including 10 goals. He recently had a six-game goal-scoring streak snapped on Saturday and has a point in all seven games.

The Chicago Wolves play three games, all on the road, before they host the Stars on Saturday night. The two teams met this past Saturday, with Iowa coming away with a 2-1 overtime win. Yan Stastny potted both goals for the travel weary Iowa team. The Wolves have lost four straight contests, equaling their longest streak all of last season. Scott Barney leads the Wolves with three goals, all of which are on the power-play, and six total points. Chicago is 1-3-1 in five games this season, and have been outscored 12-10.

- Right wing Kyle Brodziak was returned on loan to the Stars by the Edmonton Oilers this afternoon.

- Defenseman Patrick Traverse leads the team with seven points: (0/7/7) with all points coming via assists.

- With a total of 23,961 fans through the turnstiles, the Iowa Stars are second in overall attendance in the 27-team League. The Stars have averaged 5,990 fans for the first four games, ranking them 11th, however, nine of those teams have played two games or less.

- After losing the first three games, the Stars have put together a three-game winning streak.

- Goalie Dan Ellis ranks fifth in the AHL with a 1.64 Goals Against Average. His 94.4% save percentage is 7th in the League.

- The Stars rank 3rd in the West Division with 204 penalty minutes.

- The Stars 11-round shootout in the October 21st game was not the AHL's longest shootout game. The Utah Grizzlies and Cleveland Barons went 16 rounds on December 3rd, 2004. Both the 1986-87 Binghamton and New Haven teams played in 16 shootout games. Prior to 2004-05, the AHL used the shootout format in 1986-87 only.

NOTES: On an early third period tally by forward Marius Holtet, the Iowa Stars were able to tie the score at two against Milwaukee. Both teams went scoreless for the rest of the period and during the 4-on-4 sudden-death five minute overtime period. Defenseman Patrick Traverse sent the fans home happy when he netted his second goal of the expanded shootout in the 11th round, giving the Stars a 3-2 win. The win was the Stars second of the season.

NOTES: The Iowa Stars recorded their third consecutive win on Saturday night, when they defeated the Chicago Wolves 2-1 in overtime. Iowa is now 3-3 in the young season. Iowa's Yan Stastny knotted the score at one with his first goal of the season. Defenseman Patrick Traverse and forward Marius Holtet picked-up the assists. The game remained scoreless the rest of the period and like the night before, the Stars went into overtime. However, unlike the 11-round shootout that took place on Friday, the Stars needed just one shot to earn an overtime victory. Stastny registered his second of the game at 2:21 of overtime to secure the two-points for the Iowa Stars. Goalie Mike Smith faced 28 shots en-route to his first win of the season and subsequently was named the Number Two Star of the Game.
