Penguins' Christiansen named CCM Vector AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins center Erik Christensen has been named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending October 23, 2005. In three games, Christensen scored three goals and added six assists for nine points as the Penguins extended their season-opening winning streak to seven games.
Christensen, who began the season with a four-goal performance against Bridgeport on Oct. 5, continued his white-hot start with a goal in Friday's 4-1 win at Syracuse. He came back with a goal and three assists in a 5-1 victory vs. Binghamton on Saturday, and notched his third four-point effort of the season with another goal and three assists in Sunday's 8-3 rout at Bridgeport.
In recognition of his achievement, Christensen will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Penguins home game.
A native of Edmonton, the 21-year-old Christensen is tied for the AHL scoring lead with 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) in seven games this year. He was a third-round draft pick by Pittsburgh in 2002, and tallied 14 goals and 13 assists in 77 games as a rookie with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last season.
