Rochester Red Wings News Release

ALLENTOWN, PA - Rochester left 11 men on base and Lehigh Valley used a four-run sixth inning to beat the Red Wings 7-1 Thursday night at Coca-Cola Park to snap the Wings five-game winning streak.

The game featured a pitcher's duel through the first four innings as Rochester's Greg Peavey (0-2) and Lehigh Valley's David Buchanan (2-0) put zeros up. Thursday marked the first Triple-A start for Buchanan since he severely sprained his ankle trying to make a play at Frontier Field on May 17.

The IronPigs (34-48) would get to Peavey in the fifth, scoring twice on three hits to take a 2-0 lead. Peavey was pitching on short rest for the first time in his career after throwing 93 pitches on Sunday.

Caleb Thielbar entered for the Red Wings (43-37) in the sixth to place Peavey who allowed two runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Aaron Altherr tripled to start the frame followed by back-to-back walks to load the bases. Thielbar then got a 5-2-3 double play for the first two outs but another walk to Jordan Danks loaded the bases for a second time. Chase d'Arnaud then popped one up into shallow center that should have been the final out of the inning but Aaron Hicks lost the ball in the twilight and three runs scored on the gift double. Tyler Henson followed with a single and suddenly Lehigh Valley led 6-0.

Rochester would score in the seventh thanks to Hicks' RBI single with the bases loaded which prompted a pitching change to Nefi Ogando. With a 2-0 count, James Beresford grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to end the threat. Rochester would leave the bases loaded again without scoring in the eighth inning.

Buchanan was charged with only one run despite seven hits and three walks while striking out four in 6.1 innings.

The Red Wings finished 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position one day after collecting seven hits with RISP. Hicks finished 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI while Oswaldo Arcia was 2-for-5 with a double.
