DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (23-12) dropped a 4-3 game to the Omaha Storm Chasers (15-20) in the series opener, Saturday at Principal Park.

Cheslor Cuthbert homered in the second to open the scoring for Omaha, logging one of just two earned runs on the night. The two teams combined for five errors -- three on Iowa and two on Omaha.

The Storm Chasers extended their lead with a three-spot in the fourth, sparked by a Cuthbert leadoff single. Omaha took advantage of two errors in the frame.

The I-Cubs responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth to avoid the shutout. The home team put on two base runners with an error and a walk, and Trent Giambrone snapped a 0-for-17 skid with an RBI single to left. The ball skipped by left fielder Elier Hernandez to score the I-Cubs' second run on the play.

Phillip Evans walked to lead off the sixth, leading to another run for the I-Cubs. Back-to-back singles from Johnny Field and Robel Garcia plated Evans as Iowa cut the deficit to one.

Victor Caratini, playing in his first rehab game with Iowa, kept the I-Cubs alive with a two-out single in the ninth and Ian Happ followed with a walk but Iowa couldn't complete the comeback.

Colin Rea's (L, 3-1) outing was limited as three of his four runs allowed were unearned. The righty gave up five hits, walked one and struck out five. Iowa's bullpen effort was nearly flawless as Brian Duensing (1.0 IP), Tim Collins (1.0 IP), Dillon Maples (1.1 IP) and Randy Rosario (0.2 IP) limited the Storm Chasers to two hits and one walk while fanning five through 4.0 innings

Postgame Notes:

- Victor Caratini started at first base and went 1-for-5 in his first rehab game with Iowa.

- The I-Cubs drew seven walks to increase their total to a league-leading 165 on the season. Robel Garcia and Ian Happ each took two free passes.

Iowa and Omaha continue the series with a 1:08 p.m. first pitch tomorrow at Principal Park. Promotions include Pedal to the Park, Cubbie's Kids Club, Food Pantry and Family Four Pack.
